Hello Everyone - silly question

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone! i'm new here. I started my sleeve journey in January though Balboa San Diego. June I will have finished my 6 month diet plan and I've already finished all of the required "phase 1" things. I'm so excited! I should meet with my surgeon the first part of May and get scheduled from there.

I do have a silly question, do they put in a catheter before you are sedated? I just know that was a HORRIBLE experience for me when I was having my C-section. That an anesthesia make me a bit nervous. But mostly I'm super excited.

Not everyone gets a catheter. I did not. Did they say you would have one?

Doctors are all different. His office will know. Good luck on your surgery.

My Dr did not do a catheter either. He said the surgery was so short it was not needed. I was all prepared to argue against having one and was nicely surprised by his answer.

Like everyone likes to point out though- Every Dr is different. Best of luck to you :D

I had a catheder, but it was put in after I was sedated and taken out the next morning before i was discharged. I sooooooo did not want one, but it did not bother me at all and saved me from having to get up in the middle of the night.

I was asking my doc a bunch of questions I had written down and he jumped in the middle of it and said "And I won't do a catheter"... that wasn't even on my list! :)

I didn't have one either. My doctor said there was no need.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
