Portion size and Daily Calories

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I had my sleeve surgery on 2/3/14. Just curious how many calories every eats per day and what your serving size is per meal. My doctor told me I should eat 3-4 ounces per meal and my daily caloric intake should be no more than 1100 calories per day.

What are your numbers?

You'll find a lot of variance on this. Doctors and nuts all have very different plans.

My doctor had us all on around 800 calories a day, 75-80 g Protein, 27 g fat, and no more than 60 g carbs. I followed that for 4-5 months and did well.

Now that I am near goal I eat 35 or more g of fat and fewer carbs. Protein is around 65-70. I am also eating more like 900-1000 calories a day. Fats help with satiety.

My surgery was nine months ago and I eat 900-1100 cal per day, 75-90 grams of Protein. My portion sizes are about 3 oz protein and half cup of veggies. If I eat Soup or chili I eat about one cup.

I'm at 6 months today! And starting at 6 months I am supposed to be eating 1200 calories. I struggle to get in 800 most days. I never go under 60g Protein and I dont really keep track of the rest, but I use mfp so the stats are there if I need them.

No more than 1,200 calories a day or 100 carbs and a minimum of 70g of Protein. I was sleeved 12/2 and usually average around 800-1000 calories and 50 carbs. Most important things to remember are keeping your Protein above 70, drinking at least 8 glasses of Water per day and taking ALL of your Vitamins. Also, be sure you're getting your blood drawn as instructed as first to ensure you aren't Vitamin deficient. Potassium deficiency can be a real issue.

Best of luck to you! If you're on MFP, feel free to add me. xmarycontraryx or my email is maryallisondixon@gmail.com.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
