eczema healing 5 days out

Recommended Posts

I am five days post op and am experiencing a true miracle! I have suffered from chronic and severe eczema for about the last three years and nothing helped. I had read articles and been told that sometimes after surgery the eczema heals and goes away. This was indeed one of my many motivating factors for getting the surgery. From what I have read, no one knows why yet, but eczema sometimes heals after surgery. I am happy to report that I seem to be one of the lucky ones whose eczema is going away.

For those who are lucky enough to not be plagued by it, you probably don't understand the significance of being eczema free. Over the past three years my chronic eczema has become the bane of my existence. I had open bleeding Patches, covered with scabs over most of my body. Even a period with it around my eyes. I could not exercise or go outside in the heat because sweating was literally like pouring salt in an open wound. I have put on at least 20 pounds in the last three years (probably more) because I could not garden like I wanted to, I could not do outdoor activities with the family and embarrassment over my appearance (not just the weight) made me isolate myself more and more.

I am still just on clear fluids for the next week or so. I am convinced it was something in my diet even though the allergist could not find anything. I am very suspicious of gluten or sugar since I started to see an improvement after I went on the pre-op diet of low carbs.

Has anyone else had this miracle happen or any of your own miracles?!

I just wanted to say Good Luck and I do hope this was what it took to get your eczema under control. My child has had it for years, So I know what you have been going through. I wish you all the best!

I have several skin issues, mainly a condition called keratosis pillaris. I've had it since I was about 2 years old. Since surgery it has gotten about 80% better. Amazing. I believe cutting out most sugars, carbs, gluten is the cause. Maybe someday I'll be able to cut out dairy and it will completely go away, but for now I'm thrilled!

That is so great that your eczema has gotten so much better. I too suffer from severe eczema and completely understand the pain and embarrassment. My eczema was actually getting better during my first few weeks post-op but just last week when I was moved over to a regular modified diet all hell broke loose! I can't even sleep and Benadryl or topical steroids aren't helping :(

I asked my dr about a wheat or gluten sensitivity and they kind of look at me like I have 10 heads. That was really the only difference between now and then. My allergist hasn't found and food allergies either. It's very frustrating! I've decided to kind of test this myself and cut all gluten out of my diet and see if there is any improvement.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
