I am 6 weeks post op and I was able to drink a lot of Water after surgery also. I have not tried bread yet but I heard whole grain is better to eat with the lapband.

I'm also about 6 weeks out and I can still drink as much Water as I want. I can't eat bread, but I do fine with crackers. Experiment! Never say never

Well I am almost 3 months out...I didn't have trouble drinking either after surgery as long as I didn't gulp my Water. As for bread I can eat it, but try not to eat much of it and only wheat or rye or pumpernickel when I do...even had a half of bread stick from Olive Garden without all that butter and stuff on it. It is totally up to you I suppose...I just don't want a stick with bread so I am very easy on it. So never say never...try it, if it works I would just say be careful how much of it you eat. Best wishes to all on this post!!! Have a great day!!!

You apparently have very little swelling from the surgery so your band opening(stoma) is wide open. You won't feel restriction till you get some fills.

I can eat bread if I'm very careful but I rarely do. I do sometimes have whole wheat Oroweat thin slices for Breakfast egg sandwiches. Bread isn't all that good for you so I don't miss it. I'd rather fill up on quality Proteins than bread. Most bread is just processed flour which turns to sugar shortly after consuming and this can actually make you hungrier an hour later. Whole wheat is better but not by much.

I'm just about 6 months out from my surgery date - and about 40 lbs down and another 40 lbs to go... i've had 4 fills and unfortunately my 4th fill was too much, nearly collapsed my esophagus, so had to get 4 cc's unfilled and now I'm waiting 30 days to get back to the right spot... that said, I was able to eat and drink quite a bit after i healed after surgery until my 3rd fill which took me to 7 cc's - which in hindsight I should have stayed for a few months - I'm hopeful to get back to 7 next week. Right now I am at 4 cc's and honestly I could eat almost anything without getting stuck albeit I'm not b/c I'm LOVING the weight loss and NOTHING is going to derail me - but if I didn't have this mindset I could easily gain back a good amount of weight.

So - enjoy the fact that you ARE able to drink too much but try not to b/c this is the training "bandster hell" time you will go thru - hindsight is so interesting and having experience no restriction, some restriction, much restriction and then complete restriction - there is definitely a middle ground that is the best most useful place (I believe they call it the green zone) where the band works but isn't starving you - it takes a long while to figure this out - kind of live and learn.

If I had it to do all over again I would have taken my fills a little slower - and let them ease me into this lifestyle - but Noooooo I wanted real restriction and I wanted it NOW :) LOL - so I am enjoying this little reprieve but one week from tomorrow Part C of my journey begins and I plan on making the most of it - gaining comfort in the restriction I get from my fill.

I hope this helps a bit.

Hi there, congratulations on your surgery! We are all so different. I can still really honk on my 32 ounce bottle of Water with a splash of cranberry and aloe vera -- it's my comfort drink. Even if I am feeling "tight" foodwise I can still glug down the liquids just fine. Regarding bread, I avoid bread and Pasta for all the obvious reasons -- and when I do try a bit of something along those lines I often get a little radar blip from my band telling me to cut it out. Easier for me to avoid, plus my husband is Celiac so we don't do much gluten anyway. I've had six fills and think I'm definitely in the green zone -- feeling very happy with my band and with life in general. Here's to spring!

Hey there, best wishes for next Wednesday! We are all learning as we go, that's for sure. The whole "know thyself" component is pretty amazing in this process -- sometimes I already know but do something anyway or don't do it, like the exercise I know I need to move. In the eating realm I really have learned to slow down and take a moment to notice, notice, notice. This listening in to my body has helped with so much besides food -- just stress in general and how life buzzes around me. I am getting a lot out of this process and can tell you are, too. Good luck with everything.

I'm 4 months post op. My Dr. is very slow with fills. So far, I have been able to eat anything, including bread. I try not to. The only thing I have a hard time with is hamburger. I go in tomorrow for another fill. I am able to chug an entire glass of Water at once with out a problem. I am thinking I am no where near the fill level I should be. My weight loss has been slow. MAYBE 4 lbs a month.

I'm 8 months out from surgery, have had 7 fills and can still gulp Water (Now at 6.8 CC in my band). I can eat bread, but not in the morning and try to stay away from it as it fills me up very fast and keeps from eating my good Proteins. Will occasionally eat half a dinner roll at supper time but I make sure I take little bitty bites and chew it up real good.

I'm almost 11 months post-op. In the beginning I wasn't able to drink alot in fact I had to sip sip and sip some more all day just to get in 64 oz of Water, but like everyone has said, every person is so different it's really hard to compare. I apparently had more swelling than most, which wasn't neccesarily a bad thing since Bandster hell started for me about week 4 and by week 6 I was getting my first fill which did last me pretty well for about 3 weeks and then I went in for my second and haven't needed on since. I perfer not to be too tight, I don't want to be miserable and take the risk of a slip or dialation. I stay away from bread completely. After my intital consultation with my surgeon and he told me to stay away from doughy white bread because of swelling and stuck episodes, I came to terms with the fact that I was just going to give it up all together and honestly with the exception of a hamburger craving every now and then I don't miss it. I also try to stay away from Pasta and rice, I've had them a couple of times but it just isn't the nutrients my body needs so for me it's not worth it. Congrats on your recent surger! Just take it slow and follow your Dr.'s instructions to the T and you will be succesful!!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
