How much time off work-office/desk job

I'm planning on taking three weeks. I'd love to take 4, and I have the EIB to cover it, but I work as a nurse in a busy OB/Gyn office and we don't really have the coverage. There are only two of us nurses, and I can't, in good conscience, just take the extra week (unless necessary) and leave my other nurse by herself.

I went back to work today,...17 days post op. I was approved for 30 days but truthfully I could have gone back after a week or so.

I am do to have my surgery Monday I am taking only two weeks off and I will be back at work, I am hoping that I have a easy recovery without nay complications , I have seen most doctors offer just two weeks off because by the you will have your first appointment. but everyones program is different. Good luck to everyone.

I took two weeks but felt fine after one. I used the second week more as a vacation week - a lot of reading, movie-watching, and spending time w/my dogs. I even got a little sun on my deck. :-)

I am taking 4 weeks. I want to get into a routine and take some ME time to make sure I'm following all the diet exersize plans.

My first post-op appointment with my surgeon is almost at the end of my 4th week and she can release me to return to work then. Also, at 4 weeks all of my physical restrictions will be lifted. So, for me, I think it will be wiser to take the full 4 weeks.

My employer knows I am having major abdominal surgery but not specifically what surgery I am having. My surgeon's office says they don't need to know the specifics so I haven't told anyone at work what I am doing. Not sure how I will be explaining the dramatic weight loss but I will cross that bridge when I get to it.

My surgeon said 2 weeks but if I can get 4 weeks it's perfect. I resigned from my job 10 days before my surgery (march 31) and used my insurance to pay for my surgery thankfully I had cobra and I am going to start my new job on may 19. So I will be 7 weeks out on the first day of my new job. I started my part time job on Saturdays on April 26. And I started to hunt for my full time job in the week of April 21. So I took about 3 weeks but glad I had 7 weeks to rest. Realistically I think 4-6 weeks is best to rest it out. My surgeon even recommended that. I still feel some pain internally. Lots of rest is needs for the gastric bypass.

I am doing the same thing told my job I am having surgery to fix my acid reflux. I am taking 4 weeks off then going back on light duty for 2 weeks. I am a nurse so things can get pretty hectic at times. I hope this works out.

I have given birth several times, and I do take forever to get my head screwed back on. I prepared for four weeks off, but seeing all your ambitions above, I think I am only going to prepare for ten days off. I am a piano teacher, but I teach only non-verbal and autistic students. A change in routine is very upsetting to them, and I know the parents would prefer to have me sit in pj's than cancel :-)

I am 3 weeks out from RNY and I'm still recovering. My energy is low in the afternoon. I took 5 weeks and will need every bit of it. I still need to nap in the afternoon. Good luck and dong rush back to soon.

It was enough for me but I took two weeks. You should plan for the possibility of more time, just in case. Most people are on pain meds for part or all of the first week. You're not allowed to drive for that time because of the drugs, and the danger of injury or complications that can happen immediately following surgery. I only used pain meds for four days. After my one week postop visit I was cleared to drive and increase my activity. My second week out of work I was cutting my lawn and shopping, in addition to 'resting'. :-)

I did develop an allergic reaction in the form of an itchy rash that drove me nuts for two weeks. Two surgeons, one PA, and a dermatologist all agreed it was an allergic reaction to SOMETHING related to surgery because it started two days after, but none of them could figure out what caused it and none of the prescription creams or ointments we tried worked - it just had to run it's course. The rash covered my belly, back, thighs, and upper arms. :-p

I am having surgery April 23rd and going back to work May 4. I have an office/desk job.
