Anybody in here sceduled for surgery this MONTH?

Recommended Posts

For anyone who has been sleeved already this month I wanted to know if someone could kind of walk me through the process once you get to the hospital. My surgery is on 4/23 and I'm a stickler for detail, it's driving me crazy that I don't know what to expect. I know hospitals operate differently but just would like to hear other experiences on what happens between checking in and actually being rolled into the E.R...

My arrival was pretty strait forward. I had done the pre op the day before and took care of payment. So on surgery day they took me to a bed with a curtain around it and gave me a gown to change into. Then they started my iv, put the heart monitor pads on, and bp cuff. Several people came by with more paperwork and asking me what i was here for to make sure i understand. But my surgeon was running late so that was the worst part! Just waiting! I'm thinking hey i could just get out of here and have some pancakes! Lol. Of course i did not do that. When he arrived they came and got me. Gave me some iv med to get me started and asked me to swallow some medicine. I remember getting to the or and that's it. Next thing I know I'm in recovery burping like crazy. Pain from the gas and nausea.

My process was pretty fast. My surgery was scheduled for 1130am on 4/17 and I arrived by 9am to start the processing. Once I arrived I was taken to a lab tech room where I was asked what procedure I was having and needed to verify my name and birthday. Once I got through with questions, I was told to take all my clothing off and put on a hospital gown with white compression stockings. Afterwards a nurse asked me to pee in a cup to validate not being pregnant for the anesthesia doc. Once that was cleared I was then threaded for an IV. My doctor and nurse came in to answer any last questions. After they left I was escorted to the operating table (yes I had to walk lol). Once I made it to my room I was given some soothing medicine through my IV. The surgery assistant placed an oxygen masked over my nose where I then fell off to a deep sleep.

I awoke in the recovery room soar and out of it. I asked for something for the pain. I was taken to my personal room fot further maintenance. The surgery as a result was very successful and fast. My team of nurses made me very comfortable and answered all my questions. That same night I was walking with one of the nurses in order to ensure the best recovery.

The next day I went to an xray room and had to drink a clear Fluid to determine if there were any leaks in my sleeve. Upon passing this test I was brought broth and Jello for Breakfast. A few hours went by and the catheter which was placed while under was finally removed. I had to void or use the restroom on my own before I would be discharged. It took me a while to use the bathroom but as soon as I did... I was discharge! Hope this helps!

Thx so much JustMe and Sha! I'm glad I know what to possible expect, that helps a lot. I've read so much about the actual procedure and the after care but then I realized I didn't know that to expect before. Most ppl don't care too much about that part but I guess I'm a weirdo like that lok

I'm a ball of nerves...I've been having overactive anxiety issues for the first time since this process began. I have 3 more days. I pray for no complications and a stellar recovery for myself and all to follow..

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
