I started the pre-op diet on 3/25 and am down 17 lbs. since then. Walking a bit, but not going to the gym or anything. I find I don't have much energy on the liquid diet.

I'd suggest avoiding going off the diet if at all possible. Since we're supposed to cut carbs, if you are going to cheat you'd probably best go low carb. Veggie Soup might be pretty high in carbs.

I am down 14 lbs on the pre-op diet. I started mine April 9th and my surgery is on the 23rd. I haven't exercised a ton due to the fact I've been working 12 hour days to try to get everything ready when I'm gone. My gym is right around the corner from my house and I will be going everyday when I get home from the hospital and working with my trainer. I've been having these crazy dreams that I've been cheating though. Lol! Good luck to everyone and stay strong.

My surgery is April 29, and I'm doing the pre-op diet too. Three liquid today plus a lean cuisine at night, which feels pretty doable. One thing I figured out right away though was that I had to get all the tempting stuff out of the house, or out of sight anyway. I put my shake stuff in one covered so I don't have to open the other ones and see all the other food, and refrigerator things for me in one section so I'm telling myself it is off-limits to go looking through the rest of it. Good stuff I can cheat with is never "out of mind" but putting it out of sight makes it just a little bit easier! Good luck everyone.

That's a great idea! I've got my Protein Shakes out on the counter and my kids keep leaving yummies out on the counter too. Lol....I've done well about throwing it back in the cabinet and ignoring it. I stocked our refrigerator with milk, fruits and veggies. Hoping to help make the change happen for our whole family.

My surgery is April 23rd and I am on day 2 of my liquid diet. I thought about cheating so many times today but managed to stand my ground. I am so hungry!!! I have been peeing like a racehorse all day as well, lol. I was not expecting the irritating headaches either. This is going to be a huge learning curve for this girlie!

Anyone know what's up with these headaches? Is it sugar withdrawal? More Protein than usual? Maybe not enough Water? Hypoglycemia? I've never experienced headaches like these! I didn't have one yesterday thankfully and hopefully no today.

I started mine about ten days ago and have lost about 5 or 6 pounds, which is low for me at startup. I'm only eating about 8-900 calories a day max, and so feeling a bit frustrated. Still, I know it's helping to prepare me for surgery both head-wise and liver-wise, so I'm okay with it. I plan to try to figure out what would be the equivalent of a lean frozen entree at Easter dinner tomorrow night, since i'm allowed one of those per day. Wish me luck! My goal is no wine, maybe two tablespoons of brown rice, small portion of meat and salad and two bites of dessert. I know what they're serving, so i've calculated the calories too! Seems like I should be fine.

And for the record, I'M STARVING TOO! I can't wait for my surgery and to get onto the next stage of this. Wow.

I hope tomorrow is a better day! I am just in the beginning of the approval process so I cannot imagine how you are feeling. Just wanted to send encouragment your way hoping the days go by fast. Best wishes, E.

I had a good day today! Very little of the starving feeling! haven't been keeping track of my calories. I really need to start tracking again! My skin is a disaster tonight! I've had probs with seborrheic dermatitis on my scalp and face for 20+ years and I really think it's flared up because I've been drinking my whey Protein Shakes with milk! It scares me because I have no clue how to get enough Protein without using protein shakes and milk! Guess I have some research to do!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
