Everything. Taco Bell was my go to binge food before, and now it makes me throw up within 5-10 minutes of having a few bites.

Thought I'd miss milk. I used to drink it with every meal, with Snacks (and there were a lot of snacks, usually Cookies or cake that needed milk ;)), and I would drink it just because. I'll never forget the horror of the day the dietitian told me that would have to change, lol. I thought I would really, really miss that, but I don't. Not at all.

Ice cream, subway, whiskey.

Can't you have subway?

Not a footlong with chips...my staple meal.

Did you develop lactose intolerance? I drink milk almost everyday.

Surprisingly, I don't miss anything at 4.5 months out. I expected to miss going out regularly and all of the Italian food I was consuming in mass quantities, but I don't. I hope this lasts ...

I don't miss soda. I don't miss bread (shocker). I do miss alcohol (surprisingly) - just having social drinks with friends. I was a Margarita, 7n7, Jack n Coke kind of girl. I was out with friends last night to see Wicked. First time "out" since surgery. Everyone was drinking. I ordered a glass of red wine (which tasted good) but only had half a glass. I really wanted more, just couldn't do it. I don't really miss sugar. I miss being able to eat something in addition to Protein. I'm usually too full to eat the veggies. But not complaining about any of it! Down almost 50 and feel too good to focus on the "can'ts" (although sometimes they sneak up on you)!

I am surprised that I don't miss diet coke. I sometimes miss Pasta and bread, but not like I thought I would.

No, I can still tolerate it (and everything else) just fine. I just don't drink it because of the calories. The dietitian told me at one of my pre-op appointments that "we don't drink milk" and I guess I believed her, lol.

Huh... What does your nut say about eggs then? A cup of skim milk has 90 calories and 8g Protein, not to mention all the Vitamin D, A and Calcium. One egg has 75 calories and 6g protein....right in the same ballpark as milk.

I miss it all...food in general. I get hungry for something specific, and really want it, but if I give in and start to get what I wanted, suddenly I don't want it anymore. Its frustrating. For example, I really want a Tomato sandwich, but if I get up to go make one, suddenly, I don't crave it anymore. Same thing with any foods, especially when I watch food commercials.

Right now I'm getting a bit depressed because I don't have food to turn to, and I'm not sure what else to do. I have so many leftovers in my fridge right now that it is scarey. I'll probably wind up throwing all of them out. I made some saute'd mushrooms, ate a bite, and there they sit in the fridge. I can tolerate most any kind of food, just don't want them.

I guess I miss eating a whole meal like I used to eat.

Actually skim milk has 11-12 carbs. An egg doesn't. Most nuts have patients on carb restricted diets. I am not to do milk but can do eggs.

Eggs are fine. I think her idea is that milk would not keep you full as long. The question was what don't you miss - so for me, it's milk. I could have it, but I don't. It's a habit I changed.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
