Getting in the protein?

Recommended Posts

So here i am 3 weeks out and I am having a hard time getting in my Protein. I am eating greek yogurt, but the Protein shakes are now giving me an upset stomach and they give me diarrhea like no other? I guess it's not a bad thing but I don't want to be walking around with an upset stomach all the time? I don't know what to do. I just bought some of those pure Protein Shakes that you get in Walmart, and I am going to try that at lunch but it's discouraging cause I know from not getting in the Protein I am tired and I don't have any energy. Plus I have had a rough start with everything that has happen in the first few weeks of post surgery. I am ready for things to get better and move forward in my weight loss. Please help me I need other ways of getting in my protein.

The Protein amounts is hard to get in at the beginning! Just be patient and no with time you will be right up to the required amount as per your surgical team. I cannot tolerate the creamy shakes myself. Switched to drinking Isopure clean fruit flavored ( GNC or Vitamin shoppe) they will get in 40 grams in a 20 oz bottle... I still take all day to drink them , at 5 months out!.. a bit pricey but well worth the grams. My favorite is Apple Melon. For some reason they taste better on ice and in a CamelbaK bottle from Target... only allowes small sips through it!

Also make shakes with PB2 with or without chocolate and Peanut Butter cookie flavor Prottizyme all mixed together with Krogers Carb Master milk or SILK... add 1/4 banana when you are allowed.

Good luck to you.. It is all so very worth it once you work out your own dislikes and likes! Listen to your pouch...LOL I lived on shrimp cocktails since week 6... and now enjoy Wendys chili ( which I hated before)... ???

The first few weeks I used a lot of powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury unflavored Protein powder in nearly everything I ate to add Protein to it. I added a 1/2 scoop to Greek Yogurt, mashed potatoes, and Soup. It does get easier. Although I still rely on one Protein shake every day to meet my protein goal. Fortunately, my pouch likes protein shakes! Beleive me, it is all worth it in the end!

Baconville, you can have mashed potatoes? I thought that you were supposed to stay away from carbs?

I'm aloud to have mashed potatoes. My NUT just said get your Protein in first. You need some carbs for energy. Right now I'm probably getting anywhere from 30-60 in a day and I've been feeling pretty good energy wise. I'm still having a hard time with protein. I'm at 30-60 grams a day. I've been trying to eat more and more often though out the day, just small amounts. That's been helping a lot.

Wallflower that is what I am trying to do too, is small things more times during the day to keep myself going. I eat atleast every 2 hours and I always try to make sure it is something good and has some form of Protein, like the greek yogurt, or cheese sticks, some deli turkey meat or the shakes which I am not a huge fan of now since they don't really agree with me, and i have tried to make them different ways with the Water at first, then with just milk, even almond milk and all the ways I make it it just doesn't work. I guess that's my no no? I just want to make sure I get in the Protein cause that is what is going to help me lose the weight?

pupichupi - Have you tried making your Protein shakes with half Water and half milk? That is one way that my nutritionist suggested that I make them. Another thing she told me is that a lot of people have issues with lactose post op, so she has me use Smart Balance Lactose Free Milk when I make my Protein Shakes. I am also 3 weeks post op and the Protein shakes don't bother me one bit. I was a little hesitant to try the lactose free milk at first because I was scared it would have a bad taste, but it actually tastes just like milk. Best of luck!

I was also going to suggest the Isopure drinks with 40 g of Protein. I really like them. Grape flavor is good. They are a tad expensive but no more so than a venti caramel macchiato from Starbucks! lol. Best of luck

Hey Cody, I tried the half Water half milk thing and it still doesn't agree with my stomach? I am going to go to GNC and get that one that everyone has been telling me about the Isopure, and see if that agrees? I really hate that I can't drink the Protein drinks as I like them specially the way I used to make them with the chocolate and i would add Peanut Butter to it, yummy!!! I do eat alot of the greek yogurts, and I have egg whites for Breakfast, so those are really good sources of Protein so I will stick to doing that but we will see what else I can do?

OMG, ok so I went to GNC at lunch to get an Isopure, and UGH Gross, I got blue raspberry, I love blue raspberry, it is so sweet and nasty, it has a horrible after taste. I don't know what I am going to do for Protein at this point? Not to mention they cost $4.85 each with my membership discount? I am all set I think I will just find things to eat that will make up my Protein, I am not drinking this stuff. Well I am going to drink this for today but after this nope I won't try another one???? Gross!!!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
