Advice Please 2nd Fill

Recommended Posts

Hello my fellow Bandsters!!! I was hoping that someone might be able to tell me the difference between the 1st fill to the 2nd? I haven't felt like there was any restrictions with my 1st fill unless I happened to eat to fast or got stuck...so am alittle scared about fill 2!!! I know they will be adding at least 1 cc I think...what can I expect? Is there more pain or anything like that? Do I have to be really careful on what I eat? I know for first few days back on liquids...but just wondered if you can really tell the restrictions...this will be a total of 3 cc's!!! Thanks for any information/advice you can offer!!!

Everybody experiences fills differently. I am unfilled to 3 ccs (10cc band) and I have zero restriction. But I'm coming off of 6 ccs. Perhaps it will be enough for someone newly banded, and building up to a sweet spot.

Yes, you need to be careful to follow post fill protocol because your stoma will be irritated by the fill itself. You'll feel instant restriction just due to the inflammatory nature of fills...then, after that calms down, you'll know (or not) if this is the optimal fill level for you to take you where you want your band to take you.

Very little diff between 1 and 2. I think I had a couple of stuck episodes after that 2nd fill but I was still eating like my daughter's dog. No chewing, just suck and swallow. Fill #1 and #2 seemed to shrink my appetite by about 20% total.

My 3rd fill not only brought on restriction in the form of having to eat smaller, chew bigger and slow down, it also made me realize satiety much much sooner than before.

After each fill I've had I've been super careful til I saw how I was going to do. Too, sometimes it takes several days to several weeks to see how it's going to do

I'm not immediately "tighter" following a fill but rather it took me a week or so to feel the increase in restriction. For me, six was the magic number but there are people who find their green zone much earlier. Just take it easy and do a lot of listening to your body. Best wishes!

I am so thankful for 2muchfun, Gary John, SandyM and Bandista for your reponses...this is a whole new thing for me...somedays I wake up thinking I don't have a lap band...then reality comes back into focus and I know it is just another day with learning how to eat correctly with the aid of my band. It helps to know that you are all out there to help lots of us through these firsts...you are all my blessings...thanks again!!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
