2 weeks post op struggling with a capital fail

Recommended Posts

I am only two weeks post op. I have tried eggs, Beans, bites of meat, and crackers all NOT on my diet. I am failing this..... I have thrown up twice.. I am struggling so so bad with hunger and just food in general. I do my Protein shakes, I walk, I have lost weight. BUT OMG how I hate myself for everything I put in my mouth I am not supposed to. Both my sons, their wives and my grandbabies and my husband are all staying in my house right now since we moved to another state and they are getting on their feet here.. There is always something being eaten/cooked or snacked on. It makes me feel like I am trying to quit drugs in a crack house. I need to find so much strength to do this right and I have no idea where to get it from. I have to use this tool and make a change. Anyway I guess I am just hoping people can send some strength my way.

You are only failing this because of the choices you are making. I continue to prepare my husbands favorite foods and there are women here who have to cook for their families. You may be throwing up because of what you are eating that your body isn't ready for. BACK AWAY FROM THE BAD FOOD!! LOL

Try to stick with the plan, it was easier for me knowing that if I ate something I wasn't ready for, I would puke, and who wants to puke??

Does your surgeon's office have a support group for those who've had surgery? Better yet, is there a psychologist associated with your surgeon's office? You need to reach out for some professional support--fast! It is very dangerous to throw up in the first few weeks after surgery. You are healing and eating things not on your plan can cause damage.

It is hard to follow your plan when those around you can eat whatever they want to. Ask your family member to ONLY eat in the kitchen or dining room. Then stay out of the kitchen or dining room except to make your food. It's your house and your health is at stake. You shouldn't have to hide in your bedroom just so they can eat all over the house.

You are probably having head hunger, not actual hunger. Your stomach is too small to truly be hungry yet. And the nerves that signal when you are full or hungry don't work until 4 - 6 months out from surgery. You MUST stick to your doctor's plan. It is easiest to lose the weight now through 6 months from surgery. After that, the weight loss will most likely slow down and the real work begins. This is your golden time to lose. Ideally you probably should have chosen another time to have surgery since I'm sure it is very stressful with all the families in your house right now, but this is the time you have. Be strong and ask for your family's support.

Let us know how you are doing.

Carrie Leigh .... I am still PRE OP myself so I can't say I know exactly what you are going thru but I know I did not get to the point I have (325lbs and needing WLS) by making wonderful choices in regards to food. This surgery is not a magic fix, that I do know and your choices will always be a "head game". My advise <for what it's worth> is to call your surgeons office/nutrtionist and tell them EVERYTHING. Be honest and admit that your making bad choices. They will be able to help you .... wether thru additional classes, support groups or maybe even therapy or meds if your stress level is off the charts. You have just descibed my fear and a am willing to bet, many others as well ...... and I truly believe you can make this work for you. You can do this ..... you just need a bit of help and that is what the staff at you sureons office is there for. They want you to succeed and I am sure they have been ther/done that with what you are going thru ..... reach out ...... and good luck to you ......

Can you call a family meeting and set up a meal schedule for them? Maybe while they are all eating would be a good time for you to take a walk. Just a thought...

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
