I don't know what kind of cancer you have or had...but either way, go talk to a Bariatric Surgeon and they can advise you on what will and what won't count as a comorbidity and if you will be a good candidate for WLS. We're here to offer all the support you need but most of us are not doctors and can't really offer medical judgments. I feel like you will be offered uplifting advice from a surgeon but you need to go talk to them. Wishing you luck.

I'm going to a seminar tomorrow. My bmi is like 36.... I'm a breast cancer survivor. I have anxiety depression issues, arthritis and asthma issues. Just curious if it was used as one, I know this isn't set in stone and you're not doctors. Just nervous...

Cancer is a disease not a comorbidity. With a 36 BMI I don't think they would approve you either. Just my guess but you have to be at least higher BMI then that.

Sunnydove, I think the arthritis and asthma will get you over that number for approval but each doctor is different. Think positive and go to a seminar, they will work with you and get a family history to look for other possible problems. Wishing you luck.

Years ago, I looked into wls when I was BMI 35.Couldn't get approved. Not even close. 15 years later, BMI of 40 and other problems, I was approved. Insurance could have saved a lot of $ on meds and other surgeries if they'd let me do this in 2000.

Miss Mac, I would think if your related condition is premature death, WLS would not be an option!

I think premature death was on most of our lists... Without surgery.

Its one of the reasons we had surgery...

That list is great, @@Miss Mac...but I think "premature death" would be a game changer all the way around! LOL

I was approved with a BMI of 36.4. I have sleep apnea and am pre-diabetic. I had no problems with my approval so you never know until you try.

True regarding the future - but it hasn't happened yet, so can't be a comorbidity.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
