I am scheduled for lap band surgery on May 22nd and my surgeon will be fixing a small hernia as well. I need all the strength and willpower I can get to make it through my 2 week surgery liquid fast...Anyone have any strategies that worked for you?

My surgery date is May 20, but insurance approval is still pending. I don't think it will be a problem however.

My doctor isn't having me do the 2 week pre-op diet thing. I'm not sure how she determines who does it and who doesn't, but I'm glad to escape that part of it.

I'm getting really nervous and I can't quite believe it's really happening!

You are so lucky that you don't have to do the liver shrinking diet. I am on day 3 and it has been kind of rough. I just keep reminding my self of the end results. Good luck with your insurance.

Im nervous too and can't believe get to have my surgery May 2.

Hi, May banders! I had surgery March 13. I had a five-day clear liquid pre-op. It got easier at day three. After surgery I was put on six weeks of full liquids, which in my case also allows blended creamy Soups and yogurt and sugar free pudding. That got easier after two weeks, and I finally get solid food in five more days. You will probably gain a few pounds from the surgery from swelling and healing. This will take up to a month for your body to shed at its own pace. Don't obsess about it, it's useless. Just follow your nutritionist's instructions. If you can start a walking regimen now it will help after surgery. It all seems so daunting pre-op, but it is doable. You will make it through and your new life is waiting for you. This is hard, but it gets easier the more I follow directions. The days I have trouble are the days I cut corners. So I stopped cutting corners and the weight is dropping off now. My band is not yet filled and I am surely still dieting, but my goal is a safe and healthy transition into the fill phase and then finding my green zone. Until the band is filled to the green, we are working hard and exercising a lot of discipline. Don't despair. It is so worth it and I feel a thousand percent better than I did two weeks pre-op. I walk two miles a day now, every day, and I couldn't get off the couch on March 12th. Good luck to you all! Keep posting!

I am scheduled 5/14/14 - Nervous Nelly for sure over here! Came so close back in Sept, during my pre-op I found out I was over 3 months pregnant! SO now that I have delivered a healthy baby girl, I climbed back up on this horse and I am ready to take this ride.

Good luck everyone! As @@JustWatchMe said, the pre and post-op liquid diet takes some commitment. Even after that, you have some hard work to do when transitioning to normal foods. But it is so very very very worth it!!! I'm 7 weeks post surgery and wouldn't change a thing! It has been amazing journey so far.

Kudos to all of you on getting your band dates!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
