Is there a way to prevent scarring?

Hi all! :) I am 18 years old, 5'7, and 220 lbs.. I'm having a VSG done on May 27th in Mexico with Dr. Aceves, and I am beyond excited! My mom has had the same surgery done by Dr. Aceves, and she has really dark scars from where she had the surgery. I was wondering if anyone had any tips on how to prevent them or get rid of them? My dream is to feel sexy in a bikini for the first time and I would hate to feel self consious over scars, that I can't get rid of. If anyone has any advice it would be greatly appreciated! Thanks so much!

    Lots of sunscreen, it is sun exposure that creates melanin that darkens your skin.
