Yesterday I went to the nutritionist appt. And I told her I love food. And she said: why are you doing this surgery? Said what???? She looked at me like I should have try again to lose weight on my own. I explain that in 35 yrs I tried several times. She told me I have to lose 10% of my weight and I have to start eating small, biting food 15 times, and drink a shake in the morning. But I can't do that otherwise I'll be going on a diet again on my own. ( this is not the 2 weeks prior surgery) I'm still in the pre op phase and I don't even have a surgery date. Do I really have to love 10% to get my surgery approved or I can just show that I tried?

That may be a surgeon requirement versus an insurance requirement that u lose 10% of ur weight. Some surgeons do that some don't.

That's not true for everyone. Neither my surgeon nor my insurance had any requirements like that.

I think they are trying to see if I really want to change! But I been thinking about surgery for 4 yrs and been obese for all my life. I did lose 60lbs in 2011 and got all back to this day. Is so frustrating when I feel people don't understand why I need a surgery. ????

My surgeon required 10 percent but they want yo see if your going to make the effort yo changed all he said was try and when your on the liquid diet before surgery your sure to loose at least 10 pounds . And that's not an insurance requirement it's a serge on requirement.

I was required to lose 15% of my initial starting weight as a safety precaution because losing weight makes your liver shrink, lessening the risk- during surgery. I always thought they wanted us to lose a little weight to show an effort..

Someone else posted exactly what I was told. You should lose 10-15% of your starting pre-Op weight to reduce the fat around your liver & reduce the risk of the surgery. I lost 12 pounds on Pre-Op diet & had no complications at all. Good luck

Thank you for your responses. I do t have a surgery day yet, it's a long process here. I guess they want me to start thinking and eating as I already had surgery. To get my body use it. This is not the 2 weeks before surgery Protein or liquid diet. I'm still months away from surgery.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
