Pre-op Testing at Hospital Mi Doctor

Recommended Posts

Surgery in 6 days! Just hoping someone could give an account of their pre-op testing at Hospital MI Doctor... I'm sure it varies a bit from doctor to doctor, but it should be pretty similar. Just wondering what to expect :)

Good Morning -

I was sleeved on 3/17 at Mi Doctor. First they took blood - got it on the first stick and did BP. Then we went upstairs and we did hgt/wgt and an EKG. The intern spoke to me about my cholesterol which was high and then it was nap time until surgery.

Easy, peasy. BTW - don't forget to bring slippers to walk around in. Also, go to Barnes & Noble and get one of the SparkNotes hard cards titled, Medical Spanish. The night nurses don't speak English as well as the day staff. They are very friendly and nice though.

I was very pleased with how well I was taken care of!

Hi TenderTummy - who was your doctor at Mi Doctor?

I'm going Friday 4/11 and would like to know as much as possible.

How many days did you have your drain in?

How was your pain level?

Were you nervous?

Any extra fees?

Thanks!!!

My Dr is Lopez. I'm actually having it done with my best friend. She is having the sleeve and I'm having a revision to sleeve. This isn't my first surgery in Mexico. First time was so amazing I decided to return. They treat you like royalty. I'm beyond ready. I've had the band for almost 9 years and it has been miserable!!!

My doctor was Dr. Cabrera.

My drain was in 2 days and out before I left the hospital - Dr. Lopez leaves the drains in for 4 days.

Pain level was fine but I walked a lot - which is key to the gas.bloating pain.

I was definitely nervous but everyone really takes such good care of you that I did not need to be.

I didn't have any extra fees but one lady in our group did because when they went in they needed to do a hernia too.

I am losing about half a pound a day - not as fast a lot of people - but I am really pleased with my progress!

Thank you for getting back with me...I do appreciate it!

Maybe with the "slower" weight lose you will not need the gallbladder surgery.

Was watching "my 600 pound life" this week and the doctor had to rush his patient in (Christina was on this weeks’ episode) to conduct an emergency removal of her gallbladder - it was pretty serious.

I also had Dr. Cabrera and no real problems at Mi Doctor. Only trend I have noticed in following comments from Mi Doctor clients--quite a few of us had IV stick issues including me. Lab lady that took my initial blood work was excellent with her needle stick. Nurse who put my IV in had to do it twice, & my veins are good with no problems with other times it's been done. Post-op it was kinked and relocated to my opposite hand. A problem again the day after and I actually took it out myself ( well it was half falling out anyways) and would not let them put it back in! I was feeling ok though, and got my meds ( antibiotic & pain) with a shot in my butt. Mi Doctor could benefit from a good IV nurse. Ask for a supervising nurse if they can't get it done well on the first go.

Thanks for the information and advice.

I have easy to see veins so I hope this doesn't happen, but other who have easy to see veins have said the same as you, so going in I know that may be an issue....

Friday is coming too fast! Again, thank you!

I had dr. Cabrera too. He was awesome. The nurses are not too good with finding veins and such. Had to get poked three different times in three different area and still have the bruises. I was sleeved on 3/31. Other then that it was perfect. Was treated very well.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
