Each could be different but mines went very well. I basically filled out a ton of questions met with him answered more questions verbally then he spoke to me about how to began preparing mentally for this lifestyle change. He shared a wealth of info that's been very helpful to me. Good luck and u will be just fine. Shouldn't be bad at all.

It really depends on the psychologist. Some will just have you sit down at a computer and take a questionnaire about your past diet and eating habits, some will interview you with simple questions like what you think you'll get out of the surgery, do you have any unresolved eating disorders, etc. They'll ask you questions about your eating patterns. I've never heard of anyone not getting a positive letter from the psychologist. I had a known eating disorder when I went into surgery, but because my therapist wrote my letter and explained that I was in treatment for it, it wasn't a problem. You'll be just fine! :)

There's a lady on here who psyche eval didn't go well. Could be her circumstances but her psychologist didn't clear her and required her to return for further consultation. She was the first person i had ever heard of to experience this. Mines went very well and so did my daughters. My bariatric clinic have me a list of 3 that they routinely work with and the one we chose was awesome I felt like he was there to support me ensuring I didn't have on blinders about the surgery how it isn't a magically fix it's a tool that requires hard word dedication and consistency. Very happy my path crossed with his.

I'm having my team appointment with the nutritionist and psychiatrist today as well. I just met with the Nutritionist. It was a breeze. I'm currently waiting in the lobby to meet with the Psychiatrist. I'm a bit nervous.

I've been through two evals (one for the Lap-Band and one for the sleeve revision). The second one did a great job. I believe they truly want to clear you and use this time to identify and educate. I was given an action plan with a generic part and a personalized section. Here's what is covered.

1. Specific, concrete ways to eat 3 meals per day, Protein first at each meal.

2. Strategies to manage your environment to reduce opportunities to eat inappropriately.

3. Identify triggers and risky behaviors. List ways to avoid or interrupt them early.

4. Identify alternatives to emotional and stress eating.

5. Identify your support system.

6. List activities you enjoy.

My personalized section listed...

1. Practice eating slowly.

2. Practice avoiding liquids 30 minutes before/after/during meals.

3. Attend the bariatric support group.

4. Revisit this psych in 3 months post surgery.

5. Support groups a. church

b. best friend

c. family

6. Follow up with personal psychiatrist and psychologist.

7. Weight training post surgery when cleared by surgeon.

8. Document "hygiene issues" with PCP.

This particular psychologist is the exclusive one used by my bariatrics group. She was no stranger to the content and context of obesity. I'm glad I had this opportunity.

I had three! The first two were with the same guy a year apart. He barely asked me anything, he asked how long I had been overweight, why I wanted surgery, what my highest level of education was, how long I had considered surgery. He asked me how many diets I had tried.

He asked about psychological problems and that was it.

My third was with my surgeon office I ended up with. It was a two hour session. She told me at the beginning the only things that would make her deny me other unresolved addictions, suicidal thoughts or severe depression unrelated to weight.

She really made me think and gave me a lot of good information too. It was like therapy.

Good luck!

I just had my psych eval on Monday! It was a breeze. The psychologist was fast and the eval was to-the-point. It lasted 40 minutes. He asked if I was married, highest level of education, my work, any past MH issues like anxiety or depression, past medical issues such as surgeries, any current medications, if my family was supportive, past diets I've tried, family medical history, and on a scale of 1-10 how ready was I for this surgery? He didn't seem to care much for me to elaborate on any of the questions, he just wanted 'yes' and 'no'. If I went too far in my explanation he would quickly ask the next question. I felt kind of rushed but he was kind and said that I was a great candidate and he would approve me.

Thank you to everyone for your responses! I feel a lot better going into this now.

The Laughing Cat - Thanks for the detailed summary and for typing that all out for me! I really appreciate it. Hopefully my appointment will go like that because that sounds very constructive and beneficial.

Mine was a joke, he asked me if I knew what I was getting into, I said yes. He then preceded to type out his approval letter while he bashed Ted Cruz for shutting down the government.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
