I was wondering if any one has went to a doctor in mexico for their surgery? Can you let me know how everything went? I have read up alot on Dr Rumbaut, and he sounds like he has done many surgerys and is a very good doctor. I am self pay per my insurance will not cover my surgery, but the surgeon here charges 16500.00 and thats a big loan for us to take out now, so I am tring to collect as much infomation as I can to see whats the safest and cheapest.

HI ,

I had a great experience going to Mexico for my procedure. My local doc wanted 18,000 and Kuri's price was 8950.00. That includes the hotel stay of 2 nights and hospital stay for 2 nights..no airfare.

Hi,

I was banded by Dr. Rumbaut on March 1, 2007. It was a wonderful experience. I have lost 21lbs. The cost included all the preop tests, the surgery, hotel, nutrition support, and hospital stay. I was picked up at the airport and taken to all my appointments. The hospital was up to american standards easily. That was very important to me. The doctor even visited me in the hotel before I can home. I am doing great. It was the best decision I ever made. Another important thing, he will provide you with fill doctor references for you home city.

Good Luck

MY dh and I had surgery on 3/22 in Mexicalli Mexico with Dr Aceves.

8200$ included everything except airfare. HOtel one night and 2 nights stay at the hospital. Dr Aceves and his staff are very knowledgeable and nice. The doctor and his immediate staff speak very good english. only the middle of the night nurses had a hard time with english. My dh even had some complications due to diabetes and we stayed an extra week at n/c.

While we were there the 8 rooms in the bariatric wing were full every day. Just look him up on the web.

I Used Dr. Zapata In Monterrey Mexico. Cost Was $6,990.00 Total. That Included Surgery, 1 Night In Hospital And 2 Nights At The Sheraton Hotel. Also That Includes X-rays, Pre-op Testing And Transportation While In Mexico. Being From A Small Town In East Texas I Was So Scared To Travel To Mexico And Of Course I Heard The Usual Negative Comments About Surgery In Mexico. I Had My Surgery On Feb 23, 2007. It Was Absolutely The Best Thing I Have Ever Done. I Would Highly Recommend Dr. Zapata In Monterrey Mexico. I Went For My First Fill In Dallas On Wednesday I Had Lost 24 Lbs. On Friday 2 Days Later I Am Down 26 Lbs.:)  :) :)

I was banded by Dr. Rumbault on march 15; it was a great experience. Dr. Rumbault and his team were great, and the whole experience is very well coordinated - you won't have to worry about anything.

HI,

When the driver picks you up from the airport, and transports you to the hotel, you will want to tip him 10.00. At the hotel, the bellmen usually get 3.00 to 5.00. If they make a midnight run for you across the street for diet cokes, ( pre surgery ) you spot them a 10.00 :)

We ate at TGIF across from the hosptial 2 times and had room service delivered at the hotel. Charged about 100.00 US Dollars. Went to Revolucion Avenue and had picture taken on a donkey cart. I gave him 10.00 for 2 pictures. I bought a turquoise necklace and could not handle all the "come here lady and look at my stuff" so we got a taxi....only cost 7.00 with a tip....took the taxi a couple of times and it was always cheap.

My friend who went with me had to eat regular food the day I had surgery and the next day so that cost 50.00 or so. All in all, I would think if you go alone, you only need 150.00 cash, and if someone goes with you, around 300.00 cash.

P.S. the TGIF next to the hotel has great broccoli cheese Soup. Myself and the other 5 people who were banded on the same day practically lived on it after surgery!! And the hotel has yogurt with their Breakfast bar - they're used to having us.

I had my surgery done by Dr. Rumbaut on August 8, 2006. He is simply wonderful. I heard so many wonderful things about him prior to my surgery and he lived up to all of it.

I've been getting my fills done in NYC and the woman who does them can't speak any higher of him. When she looked at my floro she told me my band was placed perfectly - really comforting to hear!!

I'm down 50 pounds now and thrilled with my whole experience.

Dr. Rumbaut may be a thousand or two more compared to some other surgeons in Mexico but IMO he's worth it.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
