I had a hiatal hernia that no one knew about until my actual surgery. It's no big deal and doesn't make a difference to how you feel except the large incision may be a little more sore since that's the one they use to fix everything. I was also a band to sleeve so they used that hole to take out my band and port as well. Easy breezy! Let me know if you have any more questions :)

I am like MYTIME45, I also had a hiatal hernia that they discovered during surgery and repaired. I do feel discomfort if moving in certain directions, nothing horrible, but noticeable. Also was given a longer restriction time for lifting and exercising.

I also had the hernia repair as well. I have an additional incision from my fix but I think that's all. Pretty easy :-)

I was tested before surgery with an EGD when they discovered my hiatal hernia. I couldn't tell which was causing me grief after surgery the sleeve surgery or the repair of the HH...... I think it was a combination of both. The swelling of the espogus and sleeve after surgery made it hard for me to drink fluids and I had a huge amount of nausea with some vommitting.... I had to stay in the hospital longer as I wasn't getting all my fluids in for one thing. The dr. says that sometimes the sleeve patients have more nausea post surgery than the bypass patients..... This is my story but everyone is different. I think everyone should know what could happen after surgery so you won't be surprised later. I had no idea that i would have reacted so severely with nausea post surgery because a lot of people don't have this problem.... :) Good Luck with your surgery.

I too had a hiatal hernia that dr didn't know about before surgery. Let me tell you, the weight loss on the sleeve is remarkable (24 lbs in 3.5 weeks) but the lack of acid reflux is even more amazing!!! I've been able to add hot sauce to my food and haven't been affected at all!! It's so great!! I have had issues with pain at the larger incision, but that is starting to lessen.

Hernia repairs are common and needed for heavy set people. My doctor preformed a hernia repair, on me while doing the sleeve surgery. I would make sure you like and trust your doctor! You will be fine and great!

I too had all of the above things you mentioned. Severe pain drinking for 4-6 weeks. Nausea. I threw up,almost every day the first 3 months! I'm 8 months out, and how easily I have forgotten how I felt after surgery!

I knew I had a hiatal hernia for a long time and took medication (omeprazole) for it. The med worked well but still I had occasional GERD and heartburn. The hernia repair made a huge difference. No more problems and no more medication. I got an extra incision due to the repair, I'm grateful that could be done the same time as my surgery. My recovery was without any problems because of it.

Just wanted to add one more. I too had a Hernia and found out prior to Surgery. Doctor did at the satime as my sleeve. I have been off meds and have no acid 8 months out. I have to say that alone is one of the best things for me having this surgery! So happy.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
