March 2014 Sleevers

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery 3/6/14. I have had a easy recovery also. I did have head hungry until I started puree phase. I use premier shakes 30gm, and I have Isopure strawberry powder 50gm. I like both easy to get your Protein in. Now I only get some spoonfuls of food in.

Hi all March 2014 Sleevers..! This is my first post, so here goes!

My surgery was on 3/4. I am doing really well overall. I have GERD and did have some lingering discomfort when swallowing anything the first few days, but then it subsided.

The first 3 days were Clear liquids only, which to me was the hardest b/c it's BORING. But honestly you're kinda beat, and not very hungry anyway.

By day 4, when I could add full liquids I started with alot of Soups, and did ok with that. S.F. pudding, and greek yogurt become your friends too.

Once I was able to add eggs, cheese, and soft fish I became extremely happy and hopeful.

Protein IS A MUST PEOPLE! Find a good Protein shake, and stick with it. I get my 65-75gms of Protein a day by eating right, and those shakes give you 50gms on their own! Use them as a snack between your meals.

I have been very optimistic from start to my current status. I never got down on myself or the process, but I totally understand how it can happen.

Just know that this is going to change your life for the better! You may have some hiccups/roadblocks, but ultimately you will be a healthier you!

Good luck to all the pre-surgery folks, and also to those who like me are just starting out.

:-)

Any advice that is true will sound trite right now. You just got to experience it and get through. A big part of obesity is eating our emotions. Now that we no longer can have food for comfort we may feel overwhelmed. Anxiety is one of those feelings. Talking to a therapist will help. They're mainly going to teach you how to cope with that feeling. Learning new coping skills can help a lot.

071,

Everyone is different for sure, but don't worry about the post-surgical pain. It should be a small bump in the long road ahead. Mine wasn't so bad. 3 wks out I still have a twinge or two, but nothing that is keeping me from doing anything.

As for the protein, at first this will come in the form of drinks or shakes. I use Pure Protein Frosty chocolate, 1 scoop, added to 1/2 c milk and some ice chips to make a shake. It's not bad at all. 2 a day gives you 50gms of protein, and then eating Greek 0% Fat yogurt a couple times, and your'e there.

Protein will help you heal, and help you lose weight.

Try and focus on the END RESULT, which will be worth the struggles at the beginning.

You can do it!

:)

Had my surgery on 3/4 and I'm hanging in there. I'm trying to find unflavored Protein Powder that doesn't have tree nuts in the allergen section. I used to like the Protein Shakes, but post surgery they don't taste the same and they are harder to get down. It will get better...I'm counting on it!

I had my surgery 3-3-14. I too found it hard to sip, sip, sip. I'm now doing puréed foods, and find that my eyes are still bigger than my stomach. So I have several meals from a can of refried Beans & a can of chicken. I still drink one Oh Yeah a day, to make sure I get in the protein...I haven't lost much since my surgery-- is this normal?? I have noticed the difference in my clothes-- I went from a size 20 to 16. On the day of surgery, I weighed 215, at my post op appt, , I was 208.. To date, sine the puréed diet, I'm 209.8... Feeling a bit low about that. I tried to go back to exercise, which I love Zumba--- omg, I almost passed out!! I had to leave class after 15 mins...it was too much, walking isn't my thing, so what else can I do to get in the exercise... Where I work, I walk quite a bit... Any suggestions would be helpful....

Have you tried the Pure found on bariatriceating.com? It's really good, and I did the next day delivery, and I add it to so much even mashed sweet potato, just make sure I get in the Protein.< /p>

mine was 3/20. I am still bloated. I think that is where my discomfort is. I went thru... (was this the right thing) ???? I am sure it is for me, becuz I did not fix it before. Tomorrow will be 1 wk. Seeing the doc on Friday. I cant wait for the next stage of food. I AM HUNGRY! But I think it is 2 wks of clears for me. UGH... I thought I would be full. But not yet, I guess I still need to heal. I wish I could have Protein shakes.... yummmmm. anything but broth, Jello, sorbet...broth, Jello, sorbet, broth, jello, sorbet. We all need to hang in there. We have made it this far. this must be one of the hardest parts. I have met people who have had the sleeve, and they say they would do it again. IT CHANGED THEIR LIVES!!! That is all I keep repeating to my self.

Well I am 9 days post op and boy is life easier! Those painful days in the hospital and the the day I came home are now distant memories. Although I think I may be suffering from Acid Reflux...I feel great. All my sutures have fallen off and my scars are healed up all nice. The gas is gone, and even though i feel hunger...I just drink my Water and Protein drinks. I do have a wonderful co-worker who made me the best Tomato Soup. Although...the strangest thing. I was told in the hospital that my tastebuds would change, and that things will be sweeter. Well things are saltier to me too! I had two people taste the same Soup that I thought had to have been double salted...but NOPE..apparently I am just super sensitive to sodium now :( I have no idea if this is permanent...I will keep you guys updated on that! I am counting down to April 2nd, which is when I will be able to eat fish and eggs and more solid food..i can't wait!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
