How long do you wait in between fills?

Recommended Posts

I had a fill about 4 weeks ago and still feel ravenous. I have an appointment with my Dr Monday but I'm not sure if he is doing another fill or not. Is this too soon or is it adequate time?

My doctor's office does the fills every 4 weeks. Good luck Monday. It took me about 4-5 fills to get to point of not being so hungry.

Same here. I think my doctors office wants monthly visits during the first year after surgery. They want to follow your progress, provide support and give fills as necessary. I finally feel that I am in the green zone ... up to that point, I was hungry all the time too. Try to make good choices, keep up on your Protein and hang in there, it gets better, I promise!

My surgeon is, I believe, of the small frequent fills school of thought so after four weeks out I got a fill then had weekly appointments then every two weeks -- skipped once to assess for myself then went back for a fifth then waited a few weeks and six was magic number for me. Of course not only are all our bodies different but our doctors are as well. I always tell mine that I really don't want to be too tight and we are in total agreement on that. He says that most of his patients want to get as tight as possible right away to prevent overeating, but of course we know better (thanks to this forum) that the band does not work that way. I think protocols also differ because patients need to become educated and doctors like to give time for that to occur. I am labeled as a restrictor and came into banded life with a lot of nutrition background already, not a junk food eater (believe me, you can get just as fat on healthy food, however!), plus I'm the same age as my doc -- I think he felt like I could assess well for myself without getting into trouble, particularly since I have been so worried from the get-go about being overly-restricted -- and I don't want to be on a diet, I want the lifestyle. I think if you communicate where you are mentally to your doctor and let him/her know you think you need a fill, you will be able to have a good dialogue.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
