;)Hi Lovely Bandsters in Colorado!

I'm 29 years old and living here in Beautiful Boulder recovering from a very tough surgery in Mexico on the 18th of July. I'm confused about instructions for evrything--the Mexico doctor says one thing, the blogs and the American doctors say another thing! I'm still on Clear liquids which I'm assuming is right for day 4, but then I hear people on full liquids at this stage. I'm absolutely NOT a complainer but I just feel very vulnerable about this band--I guess because my time with the doctor was so brief and I have no idea where to go for my after care here in Colorado--I feel all alone!!!

:smile2:My pain is getting better today but I've had bad hunger pangs from day one--haven't seen anyone struggle with that here.

Anyway, I would love to be involved with whatever you guys plan in Colorado for support because I feel really isolated right now because I don't know anyone with the band and I got mine in mexico for financial reasons.

I know I will be better in a couple of days I'm sure....until then, I will be trying to get into a good space with good thoughts!

Thanks for your support!!

Hi Sarah!

I saw that you posted on the other thread and then it was gone!

Don't disappear!

I post mainly on Dr. Kirshenbaum's threads... he was my surgeon.

I've been banded since 1/29/08 and have lost 87lbs. I didn't have hunger pangs until about 8 weeks out, but my BMI was extremely high and I think the empty band gave me some restriction.

I'm sorry to hear you've had a hard time! We meet each month at Red Robin's. It's not about eating, it's about meeting and supporting one another. You're welcome to join us!

There are a lot of good people out there who have been banded and they can support you. Don't be afraid to ask anything!

I was going to use Dr. Melniczek but got a phone call about 2 weeks ago that he was resigning and that he was referring all his patients to Dr. Metz at St. Luke's Hospital I will be banded on August 21, 2008 by Dr. Metz.

Thanks so much Dee! I would love to come to Red Robin's, just let me know of the time and place.

Right now I'm researching aftercare for myself. There's FILLCENTER USA but they seem pretty expensive. I will try to call Dr. Kirshenbaum to see if he will serve Mexico patients. Thanks so much for your support-- it means the world to me right now in this very scary time in my life!!

Sarah,

I am so sorry you are having these issues. Just to let you know I was banded June 26 and have been hungry every day since then. I am kind of a strange case though, I had hernia surgery that went really really wrong at the same time. I just came out of a week in the hospital due to a massive abdominal infection. None of this is band related. I can trully say the only time I have not been hungry was when I was in the hospital.

I went with Dr Mel, and will be looking for support groups too. Would love t have a support group buddy

Hi,

Thanks for writing. I'm so sorry to hear that you had to be in the hospital a week with an infection like that. I'm so sympathetic right now with people who have complications and have to face a few more challenges than the typical bandster! I'm also relieved to hear that you, too, have experienced hunger! It's like my body is seriously angry with me for not feeding it anythign it wants when it wants it! I keep patting my belly and telling it that its gonna be okay. That seems to help actually! Also, now that I'm on full liquids and eating er drinking Soups for my meals, the hunger has gone down a bit. It's not as intense as it was for the first 5 days. My body has reacted so sensitively to this surgery, it has surprised me for sure. THe good outcome of it though, is that I'm more respectful and loving with my body and taking it slow, and listening to what it wants and needs, instead of letting my mind take over and navigate everything. Now, my body is more at the forefront of decision- making and my mind is having to adapt! Wow! What a journey already and it's only day 10 !

Keep in touch and take care and I'll see you at the support groups

Sarah

Thank you very much for the kind words. I am happy to say I am feeling a bit better. I am actually going to take my "new little friend" (my pump) and head up to the grocery store tomorrow. I am on soft food and there is little in the house that qualifies :))

Hey Everyone! I'm getting banded on August 21st in Denver, Co my mom is coming out from California a few days before my surgery and she was wondering if there were any seminars out in the Denver area between Saturday August 16th and Tuesday August 19th that she could attend my doctor only hold them on the second Tuesday of each month so that's out of the question. If anybody know of anything in the Denver area between those dates it would be really appreciated! Thank You

I really need a support group. Can anyone tell me of any in the metro Denver area I can attend?? (I live in Aurora).

My surgeon (Dr Melniczek) has moved out of state, :( so I need to find some new meetings.

Hi all,

I will be banded at the end of this month in Denver. I would love to meet/get together with newly or recently banded people who live in Denver/Aurora to share experiences, motivate and inspire and just help each other through the ups and downs.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
