All about me . . .

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I want to start off by telling you all a liitle about me. My name is Jennifer. I'm 52 and I live in Central California. I have struggled with my weight most of my adult years. Tried every diet. Been successful at diets but only to gain the weight back and then some. About ten years ago I looked into weight loss surgery but the insurance that I had at that time (Blue Shield/Blue Cross California) did NOT cover it. So I went on with my life gaining weight, trying to accept that I was going to be overweight the rest of my life. I have been on a couple of diets since then and had success but like I said I put the weight back on. October 2012 my Mom passed away from a six year battle with cancer and my life took a definate turn. I decided that I truly needed to start living my life the way I wanted to and that I deserved true happiness. One day while talking to my Dad somehow the topic of weight loss surgery came up and I said to him " If I had the money I would do it (meaning weight loss surgery) in a heart beat!" He relplied that he thinks I should do it and that he could let me pay for it using funds from my inheritance once he passes. WOW! Seriously? Very excited!!! I told him I would look into it and get back to him. I now have NO yes ZERO insurance and so he would pay for it 100% out of pocket. So I looked into it and got the prices here in Clovis and so the next time I saw my Dad told him the cost. The cost were far greater tha It they were and had estimated to him. The holidays came and life got busy so I kind of just let it take a back seat. Recently I had lunch with my Dad and brought it up and told him I was going to schedule my consoltation appointment, which I have for March 25th 2014. He has placed the non refundable consult fee funds in my account and so this is where I am at in my journey. Currently 250 pounds and scheduled to begin this exciting journey to a happier and healthier me.

I had my sleeve surgery on March 24, 2014. I am just starting out as you can see, I am five weeks out from surgery. My next doctors appointment is in about two weeks. So you can see my journey is just beginning also. Good luck with your upcoming appointments. Either way I'm just out of the 50s age group as I am 60 LOL. So I hope we can support each other in our journey together. Because I can use all the help I can get.

Bruce

I am 54 and I just had gastribypass done 10 days ago. I have lost 9 lbs so far. I have a lot of questions that I think others in my place would understand better than my doctor. Has anyone already gone through this that would be able to assist me in answering some question? Good luck to all of you who are going to imbark on this new adventure in your life. Marsha

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
