June 2014 Sleevers Check In!

Recommended Posts

@@livingmore Its one of the reasons I prefer not to tell people beforehand......its like everyday they see you, the expect for you to have lost 20 more pounds or lose at their pace. Last I checked this was my journey. I'm so glad to have bariatricpal as a resource to communicate with people going through the same things I'm going through. I had lapband in 07 and only lost 40-50 pounds, now 7 years later revised to gastric sleeve and its been exciting and scary at the same time. I just keep praying and doing what the doctor says....hopefully this time will be successful.

I'm sure you will be a knockout success!

I haven't told anyone but my husband, kids, and mother. My husband asked me this past weekend if the reason I have not told is because I am afraid of failing. I told him no, that it is because I can't stand judgey people with opinions about MY journey to a better me. I just don't want to hear it or debate it :)

I haven't told anyone either outside my immediate family. I don't want my friends to be looking at me each time they see me to see if they can tell if I have lost weight, or even worse keep asking me how much weight I have lost. I want the focus to be on other topics just as they were before I did the surgery. My weight loss is personal to me and a part of my journey that I am not ready to share with others. I don't have to explain stalls, give excuses for why I can't eat much, etc. I want to get back to normal as soon as possible. It is only me that needs to know what that new normal is.

On the other hand, I told everyone right from the beginning! Why you may ask... mainly because I do not want to fail. I want the scrutiny, the questions, it keeps me on point.

It's amazing, but my colleagues and friends are super supportive and I have had great uplifting moments. Usually I am the one that brings up the topic ( mainly when eating ) only to receive a cute anecdote or encouraging comment.

Talk about daily affirmation! I wouldn't have it any other way ... But that's me ;0)

Its great to go ahead and put it out there, isn't it. For the most part, I've had great encouragement and feedback. Only that one comment and I don't believe she realized how discouraging it was. I mean seriously.....she was asking me how long it would be before I saw results....well I'm already seeing results. I'm already off blood pressure and diabetes meds and I was back up to a size 16......I can fit my 14's again with ease and I'm just counting down til I can fit a 12......haven't worn that size or smaller in over 20 years. I weigh 10 pounds more than I did 15 years ago when I got pregnant with my youngest child. I'm excited and share my journey to help others......but there's always that one person.....oh well......I'll just look at that one criticism as MOTIVATION! ;)

For myself being 235 lbs over weight means that when I lose 50 ... I can't expect people to really notice. On the other hand, I'm down to 5x shirt size, I'm wearing work clothes that I couldn't almost 6 years ago, I have to wear suspenders so that I can wear some of my trousers just a little while longer, I'm down in daily meds, I can walk again! THIS IS MY EFFICACY!

This journey is mine! I covet support and put myself in a position to get as much as I can ... the odd schmuck comment is just an obstacle that can best be described as sooo much better than the fat comments from before.

WE ARE WINNERS

I did not tell anyone except my husband and mother. I value the non-judgemental support I get here. I also didn't want to be the subject of gossip and scrutiny.

Ok. Just got discharged from hospital for dehydration. July 10 was my surgery. Feeling better. Protein Shakes are making me sick and go right through me so I have to go back to Clear Liquids. Trying to get healthy to go back to work on Monday.

To reply to the above info. I have told no one what I have done excepts husband, mother, and best friend. Everyone else thinks it is a stomach ulcer.

Hey everyone! I was sleeved June 2nd and have lost 40 pounds so far! I caught myself starting to eat a lot of high carb foods and snacking when my hubby Snacks this week and really need to get back on track! I turn 30 in sept and plan on being out of my size 20s before I'm out of my 20s decade!

In response to the current topic, I told my family and a few close friends and coworkers I thought I could trust. One of them took it upon herself to tell practically everyone we know which really upset me. My personal journey is just that, MINE. You gotta do what is comfortable to you but make sure you are clear with the people you do tell what the level of secrecy you are trying to maintain is

Hey everyone. Been a while since I've checked in. Today is my 1 month post op. I'm down 39lbs since surgery day. Had a bit of a stall for some reason but I expect those. So I have the my fitness pal app on my phone that also counts steps when I walk. It has a daily goal of 10000 steps which I had never reached yet. This morning I went to a state park with trails to get a big chunk of my daily walking. Decided to walk a 3 mile trail which is usually 6000 steps on this app. Got lost in the forest trail system, ended up doing circles and back tracking trying to find way back to the trail. After 2 hours I found the main trail and my car. Ended up only being 1 mile from my car the whole time. The good news is I got all 10000 steps in this morning. Lol. Thought it was funny. #silverlinings

Hi, Everyone!

I was sleeved June 18--I'm down 25# so far--and for the most part, I feel great. I do have a sort of "sinking spell" after I take in a Protein Shake or really ANYTHING with calories. Does anyone else have this?

I've told only my husband and best friend. I trust them not to tell. If anyone asks, I say I had "scar tissue removed," which is partly true. I had an infection some years ago, and my surgeon did have to remove a little scar tissue.

Why didn't I share with everyone? Um, well, I think I'm going through A LOT of changes--mental, emotional, physical. Why should I add social to that list? Also, let's face it, once it's out, it's out. It's tough to put the toothpaste back in the tube. Just a thought.

I'm still on Protein Shakes, a tiny bit of Soup, and no-cal drinks. As for the drinks--trying Water, Gatorade, SF Kool-Aid. So far, nothing grabs me. It's a struggle, but I keep trying.

Good to hear from all of you!

I have done the same thing. My co-workers keep me on my toes and I even have ones signing up to work out with me. They hold me accountable so I don't go back to my old ways.

I have been pretty private about my procedure. Those that do know don't quite understand my need for privacy. I tell them it's something they would have to experience to understand. I for a while was worried I was over reacting until I got on here and see everyone feeling similarly. Thanks for sharing everyone.

today is my 3 week post op and i am down 22lbs. i'm very excited to continue my journey and reach my goal! i only told my mom and 3 very close friends. i had gallstones which were discovered earlier this year so i used that as my cover since i had it removed along with getting the sleeve. i, like many of you, feel that it's a personal journey and not everyone "gets" it. i didn't want any scrutiny or folks discussing my loss or stalls or eating habits, etc. so i made the choice to take this journey on my own up until 2 weeks before when i told my best friends. my mom took me to the hospital for gallbladder surgery and i told her that morning when we parked at the hospital! she was happy for me and actually said it didn't surprise her that i kept it to myself. i've always been fiercely independent. i'm grateful for this site, though. that's for sure!

congrats to all of us!

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
