Im almost five weeks post op. I was hoping that this surgery would allow me to still love food but have control over how much I eat. At this point, nothing tastes good or satisfies me. Maybe the first bite or two taste ok then I just want to almost throw up from the smell of it. Is this just temporary? I by no means regret the surgery because the weight is definitely coming off. Guess I just miss loving food at the moment

For me, it was such a relief to no longer love food. I spent so many years obsessed with what my next meal would be, how much I would eat, where I could go to get dome thing yummy, could I eat it in front of everyone, etc.

Don't get me wrong, I'm happy now that I've started to find things delicious and because I can eat so little, I make sure every bite is a great one. That said, I am no longer ruled by food of my appetite and it's so wonderful!

I feel so free by not getting so much joy out of food as I had before. I hope I never do. I love the "eating to live" lifestyle.

But I also never felt like throwing up each time I ate... Are you eating the right types of food? No gallbladder issues? Are you able to get in your Protein at this point? Do you think this is mental or physical?

Probably more mental than physical. I have never thrown up or had any physical complications. Don't have my gallbladder anymore. The only way I'm getting all my Protein in is by adding the 3.8 oz whey protein bullets to my crystal light. They have 42g of protein. I meet with my nut on Tuesday and start on regular foods then.

I have had no physical problems, I am 3 months out and I still don't really care for food. My whole outlook since surgery has changed. I dont know if its because of all the liquids detoxed me, or just not being hungry etc...but for what ever reason food is no fun anymore. I am not hating that at all, but I do wish things seemed good again. Now I just eat because I have too.

But.....at least food is no lnger running my life and I am eating to survive and fuel my body vereses what it use to be to me.

As someone with binge eating disorder and bulimia, I can say that I am so thrilled to not have an emotional connection to food anymore. There are tons of foods that I used to eat in abundance that don't taste like anything to me anymore (french fries taste like hot air, ice cream tastes like liquid cold), and every time I find out one of my old favorites is not flavorless, I do a little happy dance. The food doesn't rule me anymore and I feel more free than I have in years!

If you are really bothered by not being able to enjoy food right now, perhaps a few sessions with a therapist would help? I don't think I could have gotten to where I am now without therapy! You'll be amazed at how quickly you'll see a difference. :)

Where do you buy these? Any favorite flavor? Or are they flavor less? I'm eating between 500-800 a day, but sometimes not getting in all my protein, and heard that in starvation mode, if I get my protein in, the better for the metabolism. If I'm only gonna have 700 cal- it needs to be good for me, no empty calories.

Preface: This is NOT a complaint, it's a statement of fact.

I'm so not enjoying food anymore. Eating is a chore. I spend my whole day working to do everything I'm supposed to do. Got to get my Water in, got to get my Protein in, got to chew, chew. Must wait to drink, must stop drinking 15 minutes before eating.

Eating is now nothing more than something I have to do three times a day. All those food commercials that are meant to entice me--turn my stomach. I have no desire for sweet stuff. I'm sick to death of sweet stuff.

That being said, I wouldn't go back to the pain I was in before the weight loss.

Enough bitching. Count my blessings and move on.

I'm so glad you asked this question, and I'm so glad that I'm not alone. Like many others here, I really don't want to eat anymore. It has actually become my "job" to make sure I eat and drink enough in a day. Although I certainly don't want to go back to the old days of food ruling my life, it would be nice to actually want to eat a reasonable amount of food and not have that slightly queasy feeling after eating a couple of ounces. I'm four months post-op and have lost 65 pounds. I love the progress, but do miss eating.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
