May 2007 Banders

Recommended Posts

It seems like most of us are just losing ounces! I am so discouraged that my doc told me to come in for a small fill today. I'm not even going to let her tell me how much I weigh. It seems like I'll never get out of the 190's. It will do so much good for my psychy (don't ya just love that word). She said she would bump me up to 3cc's I think I am one of those people who will have to go to the total 4cc as I am such a bindge eater!

Funny I noticed I am wearing the same black pants I always seem to be wearing when I get a fill! Maybe they are the problem...I need to shake it up...next time I will wear my plaid!

Blessings sistah's and brotah's!

I go for a fill on Monday too. I have mixed feelings about it. Part of me wants to keep my current fill for the Holidays, but my motivated side knows my restriction has decreased, and I certainly don't want to go backwards.

I'm so close to ONDERLAND (been bouncing 200..201 for a while). Onederland is such a big goal for me, I think my scale is just mess'n with my head!!! Maybe I'll seek up on it tomorrow and it will finally let my do the ONDERLAND dance! LOL

Good morning fellow May Bandsters...I am here to brag...yes, I said brag! That is not my nature but I am so stinking proud of myself I can't contain it any longer...it has been 6 months today since I got Daisy (my band) and I am down 65 lbs.....no small feat for this 57 yr old woman! This past 6 months has brought about a lot of changes for me, some bad but most good and this is by far the best! I have more self confidence than ever in my life and I am truly thankful for each and every day. My doctor told me, barring any natural disasters, I have added 20 yrs to my life and my head doc said live each and every day to it's fullest! I intend to do just that....

Macysgranny, I love the tone of your post. It just oozes with success & happiness and that's what this procedure is all about! Congratulations on your achievements and feel free to brag anytime you want.

I have an appointment today with my exercise physiologist. This time it was my idea, not a mandatory visit. I look at it as some positive reinforcement and kind of like a support group with just her and myself. She can tell me exactly what my BMI is and how far I've come in many areas. I can't wait!

Sue,

I understand about wanting to be in onederland. I feel the same about the 180's We are both so close to those mini goals and will reach them literally at any moment! Then we will have to set new mini goals! Mine will be the 170's. I have only lost around 9 pds since August...My doc told me that this takes time, maybe 1 to 1/2 yrs. I don't know why I expect to loose it all in 6 months! that's just not realistic! I went to the doc yesterday and she gave me a fill. When they drew out the Fluid I had 3cc's in there. The PA was suprised cause she though she had only put 2.75 cc in the last time. So she went ahead this time and put 3.25 ccs in. I woke up this morning and my throat was making all these weird bubbling squeaking sounds. Strange. It has stopped now. Hope it dosn't do that everday!

Macysgranny - I am so so so happy for you! 65 pds is a incredable accomplishment! You have every right to brag and be proud. I also liked the tone of your email. It was so positive and happy! Thanks for that!

Oh, I forgot to say...I went ahead and made myself look at the scale when she weighed me..I hadn't gained any (shockingly) and was still at 192. Thanks Lord!

Blessings, Weazer

ONEDERLAND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's official!

I guess it's a day for bragging. We should be proud of ourselves.

It's imposiible for anyone who's not been where we 've been to understand our journey. Some people who know I've been banded look at me like I took the easy way out...there is no easy way out, it's all hard work, physically and mentally.

I am proud of myself, for my accomplishment and for making the decision to band and commit to the work. I will never again be what I was, the best is yet to come!

Doing the happy dance...Sue

Michelle,

I don't feel any discomfort when my stomach is empty. Just hungry and a need to eat. Why do you feel discomfort?

What does it feel like?

Wenjea, you may need a slight unfill. I had a bit taken off of mine, and things are better. I can actually eat real food now, and the weight is starting to fall again. Before I was so tight that I was defaulting to a lot of liquid calories and high carb mushies, and ended up completely stalled.

Manatee,

What do your numbers below mean? H=High, C=current?, S=? I see that your S is lower than your C so I didn't think they could be current and surgery...thanks...just curious!! :)

High <-- Feb 07, highest measured weight, but I was already trying to lose then. I hadn't weighed myself for quite some time before that, so I might have been heavier.

Consult <-- Mid May 07, started liquid diet then

Surgery <-- Late May 07

Goal <-- I might never make this, it's just chosen at random

I had another good report from my exercise physiologist today. Resting heart rate has gone from 86 to 64, exercise heart rate from 145 to 118 and my BMI from 45.8 to 34.7 (no longer morbidly obese!). I've also actually increased my lean weight from 149.6 to 152.7 and fat weight has dropped from 159.5 to 81.4. All in all, very good news and I know it will motivate me to keep going in the same direction!

Wow you are doing GREAT! I first chose my goal at random at 135 and later changed my mind to 150, I may even change it again for a higher weight as I get closer as everyone I know looks better to me with a little extra weight on (it fills in the wrinkles) LOL

Thank you for sharing.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
