Recommended Posts

PghMomof3, Bullwinkle and luv2bingo07,

Have added you to our May calendar, but am having trouble

posting the updated calendar. I've sent a message to the

site administrator to see if he can help, so hopefully I will

be able to post it later today.

Congrats on joining the May club!

15. so I can fit comfortably in an airplane seat.

16. So I won't have to wear a full-length trench coat to the beach

(exaggeration, but you get what I mean)

17. So when I want to walk at lunch with the girls, I can keep up with

them and not feel self-conscsious because I'm breathing heavier than

they are.

A list of all the reasons I would like to lose 100 lbs.

1. to be able to bend over and tie my shoes and breathe at the same time

2. to lose my apron (if you know what I mean, say Amen)

3. to stop giving Lane Bryant so much money

4. to be active with my kids

5. to feel like being more "active" with my husband

6. to set a better example for my kids

7. to not always be the largest person in the room

8. so all of my pant will no longer have those lovely worn spots where my thighs rub

9. To wear a skirt and not get a rash on my thighs

10. to be able to cross my legs

11. to be able to pass by someone and not feel like my huge @ss is gonna knock them over

12. to wear "cute" undies again... shop at Victoria's Secret again!

13. so I don't have to suck my stomach in all the time.

14. So I won't have to constantly be re-arranging my clothes to make sure all of my lumps and bumps are covered appropriately.ponder.gif

20. So I can put my shoes on without passing out from lack of oxygen while bending over! (maybe a bit exagerated but definately red face and panting)

21. I want to wear shorts and a tank top when I'm hot and not gross people out!

I've been gone for a few days and have missed all of you. I'm a bit jealous of all of you who are insurance pay with an early may date but I am wishing you the best of wishes and a quick and easy recovery. Be sure and let us know how it is going for all of you as soon as you can sit up and type.

Love the chart! It's fun to see who is on the same day as you. Thank- you!

Surgery is scheduled 2 weeks from today... I made a call into the surgeon's office, left a message to see if they have heard anything from my insurance company... keep your fingers crossed.

I took it upon myself to start a pre-op diet today... since my Dr only requires clear liquids 24 hours before... I'm doing 2 Protein Shakes per day and 1 light meal (most likely salad w/ chicken) .... lets see how it goes.

I'm so glad there are SO many supportive people here...who are all in the same situation.

The May countdown is hours away!

Just want to wish all those getting banded tomorrow the very best wishes......

I am having a hard time believing that I will have my band on Thursday-wow! I have been reading as much POSITIVE experiences of bandsters as I can find right now.

Anyone got names picked out for their bands??? I think it would be fun to name mine, and am going to try to think of one by the time of my surgery. Any suggestions or ideas out there??

Hey mommalee,

That's funny that you mentioned naming your band. I am a big fan of Stargate SG-1 and there is a character on there named Teal'C(spelling?), that has an alien called a Gua'uld in him that keeps him healthy and strong, as well as alive. Was thinking of naming my band Teal'c...LMBO! Or maybe something cuter...lol

Best wishes on your banding surgery and success!

Judy

Hi

I'm joining the May Banders Club! I'm scheduled for May 24. I just can't believe I'm actually getting to do this! It is a dream come true. I'm self pay, but oh so fortunate, my precious mother is doing this for me. Yes, I am a little nervous, not so much about the surgery, just the happily ever after! I'll be in touch now that I know about the May Banders.

Hey Crabcake,

Thanks for the note about the May Banders. I'm going to Dr. Richard Stahl here in Birmingham and will have my surgery at Shelby Baptist. I'm planning on going to the Lap-Band support group that meets at Dr. Schmitt's hospital. Maybe we will get to meet there!

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
