Anyone having the sleeve in april?!

Recommended Posts

Guess I won't be joining you guys yet. My hubby has a real problem with me doing this surgery. I think I need to postpone. So I'm crying and really upset about this. I don't think I will bf able to forgive him for this. I feel like he wants to keep me fat. I know that's crazy. But my emotions are really getting the best of me that I want to stuff my face. What should I do???

Oh hunny, if there is anything we can do we are all here for you. I won't get involved in your marriage, but you deserve to be happy. I hope things work out. Know that we are here for you.

Only you can make the decision that is right for you and your family. My significant other was initially opposed to me having WLS. He successfully lost over 70 pounds on his own in 2011 and has kept it off. He didn't see why I couldn't do the same. What finally convinced him was taking him to the orientation class with me at the hospital where I'm having surgery. They encouraged us to bring our family members and it helped! He was impressed with how holistic their approach was - I would have a team of dietitians, nurses, educators, doctors supporting me on this journey pre-surgery until 3 years plus out! There were a lot of classes I needed to take before my surgery day to prepare. I wasn't jumping on the surgery table the next day! Now if I told him I was flying to Mexico to have the surgery, he would likely have me committed. There are too many unknown variables there and I wouldn't have the bariatric team to support me post-surgery.

Oh how sad is that... You were doing so well, lost over 40pounds already! In life sometimes you have to be selfish and put yourself first. When was the last time you really took care of yourself? Don't let him Detour you! I say go for it, do it for yourself and everything else will fall into it's places...

Sboulie77 I'm married and I do understand where you are coming from. You don't want to go against your hubby. You have think to yourself have you tried everything healthy to lose weight? If you have and you believe this is your best option I agree sometimes you have to do what's best for you. Take him to the meeting to discuss the surgery that's if he's open to it. If he has reservations he should be open. He needs to know the sleeve is not a quick fix. Yes you will lose faster than normal but keeping it off is truly up to you. Exercise watching what you eat you will still need to do. Ask him to attend a meeting and ask questions. My hubby is open to me having surgery but I also want him to attend just to be prepared for the changes. I wish you the best either way.

This is a hard one. I can't give you advice on what's to do especially if it'll affect your marriage. I can just say that if my husband was not supportive I would have the surgery regardless. My first priority is me and my health. If my husband were to disappear tomorrow (literally or figuratively) I still have my life to live and I want it to be as healthy as possible. I have had a weight issue all my life and being married doesn't fix that. You have to decide what's more important to you. Is it taking what you feel are the necessary steps to achieving a healthy weight, or is it keeping your relationship on an even keel?

My original date was April 28th. I then realized that we have tickets to see Les Mis on Broadway on April 30th. I was so upset that I thought I was going to have to push the surgery out until May. When I called and found out I could have the 23rd of April I was thrilled!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
