I am on the 4th stage of my post-op diet, which is soft foods. Under the advisement of my NUT, I can move beyond Protein Shakes to "real" food this week. My shakes should only be for a snack, not a meal. But, how does one get in the required 60 grams of Protein a day when you are not hungry or that you can't even finish a serving to get the full amount of protein? Yesterday was the first day I attempted to eat protein rich food. I had a greek yogurt with a scoop of Protein powder (I wanted to make sure I had some extra protein). Then one scrambled egg for lunch, followed but a cheese stick. dinner was 2oz. of chicken with 1/4 cup of steamed broccoli. But it was rough to get all that in. Anyone have any tips or recommendations? Thanks everyone for your input!

I have the same problem...I'm 6 weeks post op, and my NUT keeps stressing that I should try to be much more dependent on getting the Proteins from food sources rather than shakes. It can be a challenge, but she also gave me a list of high Protein foods. I try to steer towards chicken and especially seafood (shrimp, scallops, crab meat, lobsters, tuna)...they seem to be some of the best sources. Veggies and Beans are good too, but still, when I'm short for the day, I'll throw in a Protein Bar...not as filling, but at least you can get in about a third of Proteins needed for the day.

Hope this helps!

After the 14 days of nothing but Protein shakes I'd rather not see a Protein shake ever again. In a pinch I have a bottle of Isopure in the fridge and I have these "goo" packets that have 22 grams of Protein that I can take to get in the require amount. Also, keep in mind, if you don't get it in today, there's always tomorrow.

I think Gel is a better term for these. The one I have is call "Muscle Gel" It has 22 grams of protein and no sugar and it is only 90 calories.

I did better today, but I did start my day with a Protein Shake. That's easier to get down in the morning. Then I had a full can of light tuna (that was tough!) on wasa crisps. And for dinner I took my kids to Wendy's and ate half a small chili. I was short 1 gram of protein! Thank you for your advice. I will keep working at it!

My NUT says that I should supplement with shakes (or powders, etc). She says that as I get closer to the year mark that I'll start to get more Protein from foods and less from supplements.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
