First Month Blues - Tired, Nausea etc..

Recommended Posts

I've hit rock bottom. I'm 3 1/2 weeks post op and today is a rough day. I'm very tired, nauseated, diarrhea usually once a day and wondering if I'm even getting enough nutrients at this point. I've lost 28 lbs and so overwhelmed with what to do eat, when to sip, am I getting enough fluids etc..?? It goes on and on right now. My doc says to try going on to soft meats and veggies and I hardly can get down 11 Oz of Protein Shake per sitting. It takes over an hour to sip that. Does it better from here?? I'm wondering WTF I did to my body and hitting a low point.

Time makes all that better. It does get better. It is very stressful worrying about the Water and Proteins at first. My surgeon told me the first 3 months to focus more on the Water and Vitamins. The Protein is great if you can handle it but not a major issue until 3 months out as far as depriving and deficiencies go. chicken, tuna, cottage cheese, greek yogurt, fish, all has awesome Protein for you. Choose a few favorites and add some broth or avocado or spices to get it to right consistency that you are ate and snack on it every few hours in between whatever amount of shakes you can handle.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
