Eating at restaurants/ Fast food places

Recommended Posts

This may be a post for the food and nutrition forum, but there's not a lot of traffic there, so I thought I'd post it here.

What do you guys get when you go out to eat?

My go to meals are:

Chipotle: Burrito Bowl

Ruby Tuesday: Shellfish Trio with spaghetti squash and grilled zucchini.

Jimmy John's: Turkey and Ham unwich

KFC: skinless grilled chicken

Chinese: Shrimp with broccoli (steamed)

At most other restaurants, I usually get a steak or shellfish and veggies. I get take out of some sort on the weekends to take to work (12 hour night shifts) and need some other ideas. What do you like?

I get a side of Beans and cheese if we got to Taco Bell. And a potato from Wendy's. Although I can't eat it all, I at least have something to eat. Its hard to find something to eat. Thanks for the suggestions.

You'd be better off with a small chili from Wendy's not the carbs of a potato!

We have a place called Bojangles here that has rotisserie chicken bites!!! So when I don't have anything or don't feel like cooking, I pick up a tub...very yummy...

I agree, Ruby Tuesdays spaghetti squash and smashed cauliflower are good! So easy to do at home too...

I find that if you look to Protein first, there is never really a problem whereever you may go...

Chipotle: A side of chicken with a scoop of guacamole.

Woodranch: Blackened salmon with a side of broccoli...off the kids menu.

Any other place I might dine out at: Chicken/fish and veggies.

I'm keeping it simple for now because that's what works for me.

I'm trying to minimize my eating out as I'm working hard to undo the effects of many years of eating out frequently.

At this point I'm going out for sashimi and having seaweed salad with it. Also getting Chinese takeout shrimp with mixed vegetables and just steamed without any sauce. I forgo the rice and put my own low sodium soy sauce on it.

Let me clear something up. I have only gone to Wendy's one time since my surgery. I had the potato then, it didn't set too well with me, so I just don't go out to eat. Problem solved.

When I eat out I usually opt for salmon if it's available because it's high in Protein. I also eat salads and avoid the bread bowl. I can't find anything to eat that I actually want at McDonalds, Chipotle(steak burrito bowl w/no Beans was my favorite), any most fast food restaurants, so I don't go. Even though I'm almost 30, I sometimes order off the kids menu at Bob Evans and other s.

At IHOP I order the senior sampler which is like 1 egg, 1 pancake, 1 sausage, 1 bacon, 1 ham.

At Red Lobster I eat shrimp scampi and a caesar salad

Olive Garden has this great tiny plate menu. I think you're supposed to mix & match but I just order 1 chicken skewer and it's perfect. Texas Roadhouse also has a shrimp skewer appetizer that works perfectly.

I hate ordering full sized meals for me...it just feels like a waste. I'll try to order appetizers, but healthy ones are rare. One thing we do is my husband will order a chicken Caesar salad & I'll eat the chicken & he eats the salad :-). Be creative!

I actually don't mind full sized meals, I just know that I'll be eating it for 4 meals.

Grilled fish at "real" restaurants.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
