Today I saw the surgeon about my nausea problem. He too suspects my gall bladder. I have a HIDA scan scheduled. We'll see what that says. Right now I'm actually starting to hope it is my gall bladder because then they can take it out and that would solve the problems... Better to have a fixable problem than a mystery one. I'm still taking the zofran though and it is still helping.

I had my first fill today exactly one month after my surgery, and it appears to be working so far. I have the large band, and Dr. Spivak first put in 3 cc's to fill the tubing, then he put in an additional 3 cc's and had me take the barium drink, which didn't go through because I was fully restricted at that point. I could see the picture on the fluoroscope and I could see the barium drink sitting there in the pouch, not moving, and I could feel it also. He backed out 1.5 cc's and the Fluid passed through. He removed the needle, put on a band-aid, and had me drink a bottle of Water which went through just fine. My only problem was I got the runs an hour after the drink, and still seem to have them this evening. I'm sticking to liquids and soft food through tomorrow and then I will venture on to solids. Hopefully the runs will be over by then, and the restricted feeling will continue for a while. After reading so many posts from others who feel little or no restriction after the first fill, I realize my restriction may be short-lived, but I'll keep my fingers crossed that it will stick around for a while.

So it's Friday the 13th. Good thing I don't believe in that superstition stuff. Just another day for me.

It's raining in these parts in PA. YUCK. Oh well, it could have been snow flurries. Goofy weather. Someone didn't get the memo that it is SPRING. Where did that nice walking weather in the 70's go? Let's get it back already!

Well, since I didn't bother to weigh myself yesterday, I did it today...and what a way to brighten up a Friday..six more pounds! Yayyyy! I expected maybe one or two, but I'll take the six. Heh.

LoriPA-

Awesome weight loss this week. I am on my 22 day out and am still only 10 pounds down. It's frustrating not have lost in the last week to 10 days, but I know I'm not gaining so that's a relief. Any tricks up your sleeve to what has helped you drop 6 pounds this week? Again Congratulations!!!

Went for my first fill today - I don't know what I was getting so worked up over - it was nothing. They laid me down, stuck the needle in, and put 1.5 cc's in (my band holds 4 ccs). It did feel kind of weird when they put the Fluid in - like a cold rush in my tummy. Drank the little cup of barium in front of the machine and voilá - done.

I have the full feeling back from right after surgery. It is nice.

On another note - I have been walking since my surgery but I went back to my normal, somewhat hardcore (for someone my size) exercise routine yesterday - my hour long spinning class. Does anyone else notice that strenous exercise makes them feel tighter?

Tiff- I read on one of the post somewhere that you will have a couple days of a plateau weight, but during that time inches are coming off. Then you wil drop a couple pounds then plateau then drop inches......it keeps repeating.

I truly believe this.

I stayed on the exact same number for over a week, but my clothes got looser. Now I just dropped 2 lbs overnight.

It's weird.

The weight is still coming off!!! :clap2: I was afraid I was going to gain with no restriction so I have to think that the exercise is really paying off. I'm still on the soft food stage, so maybe that might have something to do with it, plus I am walking or doing Walking Away the Pounds. I've been keeping up the Protein too. One more week of soft stuff! Woohoo!:biggrin1:

Of course, I am on a low dose of Synthroid (0.05 mg) for low thyroid function, so I don't know if that has anything to do with it or not.

Hello all. I got my first fill a week and a half ago. I thought I could feel some restriction at first but after a few days nothing. Several have told me their first fill was about the same experience. Then again some have gotten restriction and held on to it. I have a 10cm band. My dr. only puts in a small amount at a time. My next fill is was scheduled 6 weeks from the last, but I am going to call to see if I can get it any earlier. I think 4 weeks is the earliest I can get it. I am just hoping I haven't stretched my pouch. I am not gaining but I am not losing either. I am trying not to overeat but it is so hard. What little will power I have is helping me back off. Of course if I had a strong will power I wouldn't be in this baot in the first place would I? When I went for my fill, I had to lay back on the table with a pillow in the small of my back, she felt for the port, put she needle in and in went the saline. It was pretty quick. Oh, I did get a numbing shot first. I was kinda nervous about it but I won't be for the next one. Of course that is how my doctor did it. Some I have read, do it differently. I go to Precision Surgery in Texarkana. Good luck to all of you on your journey.

Hey sugarbear,

Thanks for letting me know what to expect. I'm kind of nervous about getting a fill, but on the other hand, I'm looking forward to it.

Thanks describing the procedure.

I origionally lost 12 lbs. when I was weighed at my 2 wk post-op appointment. I've gained 4 lbs. back. I go for my 1st fill 4/23.

Really trying to watch what I eat, but occasionally not making the best choices.

I'm trying to reprogram my brain that I don't need to eat just because it's there! I only need to eat when i'm hungry.

I followed band rules today...yeah me!

Hi everyone. Just checking in to see/read how y'all are doing. Sounds like for the most part you are all doing really well. Bravo!

I'm doing pretty well. Like others who have posted, I have been able to eat anything I've tried without problem. I'm leary of bread, although I did have a lean cuisine pizza in an effort to satisy my pizza craving. I'm 43 pounds down since my surgery and boy would I love to lose another 7 pounds by one month anniversary on April 19th to make it 50. I'm not holding my breath though. Any amount of loss is great.

Port pain still here too. The pain seemed more frequent this week but it could just be that I'm feeling better and doing more. I'm sure I still look hysterical when I'm "trying" to tie my left sneaker. At least it's not as painful as it was.

Is anyone else using fitday.com to keep track of what you eat? I've been using it about a week and it is really helpful.

43 pounds??!!!!!!!!!!!! Wow! Congrats! I was banded the same day and have only lost 15. But, as you say, any amount of loss is great. I'm still on mushies--no solids or regular food for another 10 days for me. Bleah. It will be SO nice to chew again!

I don't use fitday.com but I use sparkpeople.com and it really is great to track calories, nutrients, exercise, etc. I'm staying under 1200 calories (more like 1000 usually) and getting in 75-100 grams of Protein per day--it's nice to be able to see exactly where I am every day.

Keep up the good work, Virginia. Good for you! karen

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
