Head Hunger-How do you deal with it?

Recommended Posts

Alright folks! I need to know how YOU deal with head hunger? I've done really well up to this point and haven't struggled with it too much but I'm finding that, especially at certain times of the month, with hormone fluctuations and all, I'm having terrible cravings. Add to that the fact that the stores now have their Easter candy stocked and I'm really struggling now! I LOVE Easter candy! Sweet-Tarts Jelly Beans, Peeps, chocolate covered marshmallow bunnies, Cadbury eggs......YUM! I don't want to give in and have any of those things because I'm afraid I won't stop eating them once I start but how do I stop these cravings? Help!!!

Okay. I know it's not healthy, bad, not what your dr. Would recommend, etc..

Every once in a while I NEED to eat junk. I then eat a small Breakfast, small or no lunch...then...I will have a small ice cream, with caramel Syrup, Heath chips, and sprinkles., skip dinner and go to bed early. Next day is like it never happended. Back on track. I just have a small amount of guilt but I am able to do what's best for me again without candy thoughts swimming around my head. Remember, this only happens once in a blue moon.

I always go in the kitchen and pick up an apple. Then I ask myself, "if you are truly hungry, go ahead and eat this apple." 9 times out of 10, I put the apple down and leave the kitchen. I have to also distract myself. Also, drinking a hot cup if coffee staves off my head hunger. I go not keep any Cookies, ice cream, chips, etc in my house. I'll either eat that apple or convince myself I'm really not hungry! Good Luck figuring out what works for YOU!

I will drink more as well. Particularly coffee or tea both hot. That usually fills me right on up.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
