Julie, Ive been on an extended vacation since before Easter, so I have not been on this site too much. I DID NOT get your private message. Please send it again. Hope all is going well with you. I had the chance to meet up with two other women form this forum in NYC this past Saturday. How awesome was that. One of them posted a picture of the three of us on Hey Banders #5. I'm the taller one in the middle. What's happening with you, now that your busy tax season is over? TAMMIE

Hi Apple2HourGlass....... Welcome to the banded life, as I see you just recently had your surgery. So, how is your recovery going? I remember mine went fairly smoothly...... No complications, no real pain, so to speak. Julie and I started chatting a few months ago, and we try to check in with each other on a semi-regular basis, so please feel free to respond back, and we can all buddy up! TAMMIE

Thanks, Healthy. Fairly smooth so far. chicken is not my friend. Forgetting and picking up a drink while eating is AWFUL. But it think I am beginning to get the hang. 35.5 lbs so far. This trying to balance Protein, liquid and full is not easy! But I am not giving up yet! Or ever, I hope!

Hi Julie and "apple2hourglass".... Hope all is going well. Julie, I never did get your private message, Apple2hourglass, I too, found NOT drinking while eating to be a challenge. It's hard to break DECADES of habits. Things are going failry well with me...... just plugging along. May is always a very busy month for me, and I had my usual "hissy fit" a few times already, and we aren't even half way through May. Oh, well, THAT IS LIFE!!!!

Hi there, I've decided to step back onto the site here, as I'm scared if I don't I'm going to put all my weight back on. I had my band fitted nearly three years ago, lost over 3 stone and now slowly but surely putting it back on... I need help desperately.. I need a buddy.. Not someone full of told you so's , someone that understands me and can help me get back on track...

Xx

I relate. I just found this site but I'm here for the same reasons. Gaining weight. Powerless over food. I don't want any judgments either. Thanks.

Rivergirl, I think you'll find very few folks on this site that don't understand where you are right now. Feel free to express any concerns and ask any questions. The band is a tool and sometimes takes a little more work than others. I find times that I feel the band isn't working for me, when in fact I'm not doing right. sometimes it takes stepping back and evaluating what we are doing. That's what I like about myfitnesspal. I can lie to myself, but when I see it in front of me, its hard to deny. Some foods I find are just hard for me to put down, so I try not to pick them up. This isn't always easy. You can always pm me if you need encouragement.

Still figuring the site out. I prolly posted too soon. Now I've read the whole thread. Very glad for the posts I see on here. There are similarities in our stories. I did not expect to get hungry either. I didn't know what a sweet spot is. Or green spot. Never had those. I was too tight for the first 3 years and couldn't eat meat or burgers or fries. True enough, the candy bars and Cookies and chips always went down. I went back in around June 2010 and got the surgeon to take some out. Was so tired of getting stuck constantly. So, since then I have been slowly putting the weight back on, as I found I could eat burgers and fries again. And not just mushy foods. Which was what I had been living on. I can't keep gaining weight. I look like I'm 9 months pregnant. Feel like it too. I just don't know what to eat anymore. I overeat on carbs. If I do low carb. And mainly high Protein, I have trouble getting it all to move thru and out. You get the idea. ACK! Insights anyone? All are welcomed.

Thanks Sandy. Nice to not feel alone. Once I figure the site out a little better I would love to pm you. I used to use my fitness pal. Don't know what my log in is. Maybe we can be buddies when I find it.

If you go to myfitnesspal and try to log in, it'll allow you to put in your email address and either reset your passoword or send it to you. As for the carbs and passing them, I find that Miralax has been a lifesaver. Since I've been putting a little fruit in my Protein shakes, I'm a lot more regular. My bowel were an issue before surgery, so there was no way it wasn't going to be an issue afterwards. I was trying really low carbs 1 week out of a month, but had to stop because of this. We just have to learn to listen to our bodies. All of us are not build the same.

Hi there,

I am so sorry I haven't been in touch, I have had a manic month with so much going on... My husband had a car crash and flipped his car over, was a bit of a shock but all ok and he wasn't really injured too badly.. He works nights every few weeks so he was driving home after a nightshift, so we have made quite a few life changing decisons this last month, we have decided to move home closer to where he works which means I will need to look for a new job but I'm up for the challenge.

The diet hasn't been great... But still hanging in. I hope your May has been better than mine.. Why does everything always happen at once!

Sending hugs...

Julie xxx

Good to hear from both of you gals. Short on time but will happily write more later. I love the support and connection here. Together we do get better. And we are not alone on this journey. Good suggestions. I'm going to pick up miralax today and give it a try. I was not regular before surgery either. And have def had more difficulties since surgery. Maybe I should add more fruit. Does anyone find V8 juice helps ? I like it. Trying to decide if it's worth the calories.

Just checking to see how all of you are doing? @Julielockwoodjerrett...... I did take the family to Disneyworld in June..... Such a great trip. Not crowded, good temps, and being 130 pounds lighter made a HUGE difference in my stamina..... Thus, we stayed in the parks till MIDNIGHT every night!

Please help. I don't see where I can post. I know I am replying to the wrong thing. I need a mentor. Been banded since August, 2013. Then got really sick from diverticulitis and having 12" of my colon removed in December, 2013. At that point I had lost 41 lbs. When I was able to eat again boy did I eat now my weight loss is only at 27lbs. LOST MY MOTIVATION. I need it back. Please help.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
