I'm freaking out a little

Recommended Posts

OK...I am still waiting to get approval, but I am freaking out after reading some of the post op posts. I have an extremely LOW tolerance to pain. I basically have two levels...either I have pain, or I don't have pain. I am reading from others that they are on Darvocet for pain or just plain tyelonol. Is this really the case, because neither one of those will do a thing for any pain I might have from the surgery. What did everyone else take after surgery?

Peace Out

I took liquid lortab. Knocked me right out. It's surgery hon - it's going to hurt a bit. But it passes within a few days.

I already take Arthrotek for arthritis so I didn't need any additional pain meds. The best remedy for chronic pain (of which I am very familiar...) is distraction. If you sit around and feel sorry for yourself it will really hurt. On the other hand, if you do something fun the hurt fades away. Try stocking up on funny movies, crafts, clean out drawers, or whatever you do that normally causes you to lose track of time.

Good luck!

I feel your pain. (Pun intended). I too have a low pain tolerance. Surgery wasn't really that bad as long as I kept up some walking every hour (to ease gas pains, took my Loritab and then after 3 days took liquid tylenol, and slept in a recliner with my feet up and a hot pad on me. The pain moderate pain was well worth it. I am 60 lbs down as of today and I don't know HOW I carried all that weight around with me all the time. THAT is painful.

Just follow your docs advice and don't be a hero. If it hurts, take your meds. And remember to walk to ease the gas pains.

Amen to what Annie said.. Distraction is the key.. Walk through it. I can't begin to tell you how your going to feel, you just have to set your mind that it's not going to be easy, and that your going to have to push yourself to work through and walk through the pain. I'd have rather laid in bed all night, but I made myself get up and walk every 3 hours today I'm thankful I did cause compared to some of the others I'm having a much better day 2 than some did. Yes I'm sore, and yes I have to be careful not to overdo it. I've got a great support system keeping me busy and distracted. laughing hurts, but it sure beats crying.

Mypov hit the nail on the head. The back, hip, knee and foot pain...not to mention the emotional pain that come with being obese are 100 times worse than the surgery pain.

I'm not sure what the nurses gave me postop via IV for pain, but I didn't take anything at all after I left the hospital, which was about 6 hours after the surgery.

I agree. I have no tolerance for pain and at this time I take 6 loritabs per day for my neck and back. Had neck and back surgery and still have 2 ruptured discs and after surgery I had liquid loritab that my pcp prescribed for me so I would have something to take after surgery. My script was for 5 huge bottles. I got one filled and never even needed it. I take pain medicine now but didn't need any for the lapband surgery.

I am 4 days post op. I took 1 Lortab when I got home and I Lortab the next night to make sure I would get a good nights sleep. I haven't had a thing since then, no tylenol, nothing, no pain. Don't worry so much about it......everyone is different but if you can just relax and enjoy the experience one day at a time it will all work out. It helps that I have ABSOLUTE TRUST in my surgeon. He treats me like a person and spends time with me and always asks if I have any questions, so I went in eyes wide open. Everybodys different.....no one can promise you that you won't have some pain.....how you deal with it is what's important!

GOOD LUCK!:welcome2: to the LB club!

I took extra strength liquidf tylenol and I was fine. You may want to tell your doctor and go for some vicodin or something along those lines.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
