How much protein are you getting daily?

Recommended Posts

My doc said you can never get too much Protein after wls. Keep in kind that protein is need for so much in our bodies. If you workout a lot you need more than someone who does not.

I shoot for 104g daily on non workout days. On the days I play soccer I shoot for 130g. I need that extra protein to help fuel my body during games.

I do not drink shakes anymore - I hate the taste of most of them. I use double pasteurized egg whites in my drinks. I can take a sports drink and turn it into a 30g Protein Drink quickly. I do not taste any difference, but some people are put off by the idea. Main thing is that you buy egg white that are meant to be ingested raw. Do not buy the carton at the grocery store.

They gave me a formula to calculate my Protein intake based on height. My minimum grams of protein is 92.04. But you should follow your Drs recommendation. I get my protein from cottage cheese, string cheese, ff milk, eggs, but mostly from Protein Shakes and beverage supplements.< /p>

I would love it if you could share the formula your doctor gave you for calculating your protein. This is the first time I've heard of a protein formula and I think a lot of folks would be interested. Thanks so much and you guys have a great day!

I am 3 months post op and because I am drinking 2-3 Protein shakes a day to get my Protein count up, I am taking in 1000-1100 calories a day. I think this is too much. My original paperwork said I should be getting 92 grams of protein a day. So many people have different amounts, so curious.

Judy, to me it's really impressive you're eating over a 1,000 calories a day. I struggle to eat 500-600 a day. I rely on my Protein Shakes for the bulk of my protein. Would you mind sharing what foods you're eating that you like the most and tolerate the best?

Thanks, Sandy

I guess your doc is different than mine. Mine says to still have two shakes a day and I can only have 1/4 c Protein food.....I had surgery Feb 26

Shakily, my surgery was December 11th and I'm still doing two Protein Shakes a day to ensure a good protein count. My doctor and nut said 70 grams of protein was the minimum I should consume daily, and really stressed "minimum."

Thanks for the clarification! My number is 75 and that's very consistent with what my clinic has been telling me.

To me, that is a lot of calories but I am not that far out. Right now ending my 3rd week, I take in about 400 cal a day, by doctors orders.......strangely I am satisfied. I went to the movies today with my husband and he had a large popcorn and a soda. I had my Protein Drink and a bottle of Water, BUT the looser fitting pants I had on made it ok... :P

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
