Federal BCBS paid for my sleeve 100%, minus the copayments for the hospital and my surgon!

Ok I've been following this thread for a while and I have been approved and my surgery date is June 2nd. Did anyone have to pay anything up front or were you billed for it later? I'm really nervous about last minute cost

I have federal bcbs too but I'm worried about the copay. My family and I have a tight budget. Has anyone made payment arrangements with the hospital for a copay? My surgery is on May 18

I think its up to the hospital and surgeon's office if you have to pay upfront or do a payment plan. I had to pay my surgeon when I scheduled the surgery and the hospital required me to pay 14 days prior to my surgery date

I was approved too. Surgery date May 22. I only have to pay 200

karla 777 - so glad to hear you were approved. Were there any issues with the 2 year weight history? I am anticipating this is where I will have issues as my 2 year weight history has my BMI at 32 and 33 and right now I am 35. Appreciate any guidance you can provide.

I'm a little concerned. My potential doctor had me complete a very simple form, mostly asking my insurance info. I called a week later to ask about when we can set up a consult. The office staff said they submitted my insurance first, as they first want to see if its covered before they even meet me. huh? I would think they need to provide my vitals to my insurance rather than what I say I am height/weight. Does anyone else think this is odd. This is through a hospital and checks all the BCBS requirements for doctors/center of excellence, etc.

What if I meet the doctor and don't feel comfortable with them although great reviews.

Hello,

I'm a little late to the thread, but hope to get a response if possible. :)

For the 3 months of medically supervized dieting, does that have to be completed right before surgery or could you have taken part in a medical program two years prior to seeing insurance approval? Also, what constitutes "medically supervized?" Does going to a weightloss psychologist count?

Thanks for any insight or guidance!

It has to be right before. Medically supervised means ud either meet with a NUT or a Dr that specializes in diets and exercise. My clinic has a NUT in office

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
