Band Slipped and unfilled

Recommended Posts

I started getting fills again after my band slipped . I have not lost any weight . I was 172 before they took the Fluid out , and now I'm 209. I eat my three meals no Snacks and workout 5 days a week .....including weight training. I went from a woman's size 18 to a misses size 12 or 14 depending on the cut. This is really depressing ......I think the band has stop working for me. Before the slip my band was 7cc now it's at 6.25 , and I'm not filling much restriction. I feel like all the weight is slowly coming back with a vengeance . I'm lost :( Please help !!!

Are you keeping up with what you eat like on myfitnesspal? Are you watching your carb and fat intake? You may also need to change your workout routine. After time your body gets used to the same old stuff so you have to change it up a bit. Good luck and don't give up.

I've never used MyFitnessPal. I will look into using it. I thought I could track via in my head , and obviously that's not working . I started looking into different exercises and increasing my the current weights I lift . I also want to start running . When the band slipped I was not able to eat right , which made me lose weight faster. Now I just have to fight a little harder. I'm grateful I didn't need another surgery do to the slip. I need to move on, and stop looking at the past.

Hi tonifrdabronx I had my surgery 2/17/12, we are close in dates :) ! I was diagnosed with a slip 6/11/14 and my doctor removed some of the Fluid as well. He mentioned that I may need to have a revision surgery (which cost $3000) if it doesn't correct itself. My doctor knew I was terrified then he said its not that bad and there's nothing to worry. I beg the differ, especially being that I was an out of pocket payer.I am praying that it reposition itself and I will not need another surgery. I don't want anymore fill, I'm willing to work on my own so I do not have to go through this again. For the last year I have receive a fill just to turn around and receive an unfill. I think I have had four fill throughout the two and half years and had probably had 5-7 unfills.

I'm wishing everyone a Happy Friday and much success throughout your journey! :D

You'll start seeing results soon, if not, you may need to alter your exercise routine. I will definitely keep you all posted. I'm praying that it corrects itself. I have notice I'm not having acid reflux anymore (Thank You Jesus!!!) but sometimes the food or fluids take longer to go down. I hope its because Lulu (my band) is trying to reposition herself  .

Please keep me in prayer !

I had the band surgery in 2011.

I had nothing but problems with band slipping . I would get a fill ( the most I had was 8ccd) and three weeks later w/ o eating the wrong thing the band would slip and I would have reflux and vomitting and they would have to take all out and start all over . I just had the band removed and went with the sleeve . Feel so much berter because of the progression of weight loss.

I am out 2/08. I have been having trouble keeping food down for a while now. I have a lot of heart burn. I have had no saline in my band for 3 years. It keeps me from over eating so I have left it a lone. I have lost about 65 lbs total...maintaining. I have not been to the doc in a year and a half. He told me I have one of the small bands and he had 5 pts with it and we had all had problems. He said he could take it out, but Insurance only covers one wt loss surgery in a life time. I choose to keep it cause this is the most I have lost and kept off ever over years. Any suggestions???? EW

Explain "having trouble keeping food down"? With the band, this could mean many things? What does keeping food down mean to you and what food are you speaking about?

No offense, but it sounds like your doctor wasn't experienced and put the wrong size band on 5 patients? 10CC bands are quite common but the 14 CC is probably the most used.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
