13 yr old getting sleeve. Need recommendations in Mexico

Recommended Posts

Don’t compound your past mistakes as a parent. Quit giving the kid everything she wants. How in the world would a 13 year old know the pros and cons of this surgery or be able to handle the aftermath. A lock on the refrigerator is much cheaper than a Mexican surgeon.

Thank you for your concern but you have absolutely no idea what you are talking about????

It's like telling someone to keep their drug addicted kid locked in a room so they can't buy drugs. food is needed to survive and this surgery is a tool that will help her with this addiction. Either you don't suffer from obesity and have no idea what you are talking about or you are obese and simply angry that you are not getting surgery. Because if you had the surgery you would know that simply locking the fridge would be of no help to this situation.

I am an educated professional woman. I had lost control of my weight over the past several years. As a self pay, after extensive research, I chose Dr. Rodriguez and his team of surgeons and had my surgery at the hospital next to the American Consulate in Juarez. Dr. Rod I think lost count at 10,000 bariatric surgeries and travels worldwide to teach surgeons his techniques. Many Surgeons in Mexico were educated in the states and globally in schools such as Stanford and work in new state of the art hospitals. I have a son - and I would take him there if I were in your place. Beliteweight.com. Message me if you'd like more info. Best of luck to you.

Also - there are several videos on YouTube for Dr. Rodriguez performing surgery. I liked his entire team.

I was 221 on the date of surgery 8/11/14 and have lost 25 pounds and feel 100% better. My anxiety over my weight is gone as I know with certainty that my struggle is over and I'll be back to the old me by this time next year. I was a slim teenager and it was hard anyway! I can't imagine the pain of being an overweight teenage female out there today. Ugh.

She stated that her daughter is already scheduled for surgery in two days, so it appears that she has already chosen her doctor.

I started typing a long winded, critical post until i finally realized I could type till I'm blue in the face and it wouldn't make a difference. All I can say is, I would report any parent even considering this to DSS. Shameful.

SLCMommy, I used Dr. Q as well and am thrilled with my surgery, care, and recovery. Best wishes to your husband and daughter.

Beach guru, there are many adolescent bariatric Centers in the US. As matter fact there are thousands of teenagers getting bariatric surgery every year in the US, and as young as 11. Maybe you should find out who all the parents are and report them. While you are at it call the authorities on the many Dr's who perform them.

She just got out of surgery and doing great. This has been a far better experience than my own which happened to be in the States and at a center of excellence. Bill the patient coordinator was very prompt in answering any question I had. Pick up at airport went smooth and the Dr is very sweet and you can tell he really cares. Thanks for all those who were supportive even if you didn't agree with my decision. By the way Tijuana looks like many parts of California and I'm starting to believe that the scary stories I hear about Mexico are all made up by people who have actually never been here. I don't feel unsafe here at all. At night I would but there are places in US you wouldn't want to be out at night either. I guess your always scared of the unknown. Anyway. Good luck and well wishes to all of you

Let me preface by saying we have done everything we can to help our daughter. Dr.'s, nutritionists, personal trainers etc, since she was 8. Nothing has worked. We think she's beautiful the way she is! This is something she has wanted and been begging us for! She wants to enjoy her teenage years, make friends and enjoy life. She doesn't feel like her physical appearance reflects who she is in the inside and feels like it holds her back. She is very depressed and begging us for surgery. We cannot afford a US doctor. I need to know who you would go to in Mexico if this was your 13 year old. This would be for sleeve. Please I don't need mean or critical comments. Thank you

As a nurse i wanted to share a thought.... This is a life altering surgery and children of this age lack the capacity to grasp and understand the many faucets of impact it will have on their entire life. If you sleeve her and she has a complication or even spends childhood having to eat differently and develops issues from that who will she blame as an adult? Are you prepared to handle that or drs acusing u of neglect if she has nutriotional or growth deficits as a result

Try Dr. Guillermo Alvarez in Piedras Niegras, Mexico. He is a Surgeon of Excellence. He is very highly rated and did his niece's surgery. I believe she was 13. Www.endobariatrics.com

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
