Approaching 10 weeks out from VSG. It's been the best decision I've made. I feel mentally and physically fitter. I've experienced NSV such as cloths, airline seat belts and comments[emoji6]

I'm eating fine and living life!

I'm about 40% of the way losing 60lbs. The piccy is before surgery and 9 weeks

I received my answer from Cigna in 5 days and they approved me! I am still in shock ... waiting on surgery date now

You look great. I can see it in your face so well. I have been submitted to Cigna and am now waiting on a decision. Fingers crossed that I am approved.

Before picture was 1 month before I began the journey. October pic was 1 month ago. Surgery was RNY on Aug 8, 2016. I'm down 72 pounds from my highest weight of 355.

My mom sent me these two pictures today--one she took at the hospital the morning of surgery, and one she took today to send to my aunt (who has also lost a great deal of weight). I can't believe how big of a difference it is at 3.5 months out! When I look in the mirror I feel like I look exactly the same as I did so it's nice to have progress pictures like this. I wish I had pictures like this of my highest weight lol.

Surgery: 8/1/16

HW: 300

SW: 278

CW: 224

GW: 170

Also wearing an outfit of jeans and a sweatshirt I bought in 2013 that never actually fit haha. Still a bit poochy in these jeans but they slipped on no problem :)

Couple of pics from 11/19/16. Had a early Thanksgiving with family and friends up in Michigan, haven't seen several of them since last year. Was definitely nice getting the compliments. Sometimes it's hard to notice the changes yourself that others can so easily see. I was actually called "tiny", which I do not ever recall having been described as. I know I have a ways to go, hoping for another 15-25lbs (least what I am working towards). I know now that at 200lbs., I am smaller than when I played ball back in high school many moons ago. Had a good weekend and it has given me a encouragement for the path towards my goal.

I remember feeling the same way. It was as if it were a surreal experience. I was excitedly looking forward but was afraid too as I didn't know what my experience would end up being like. But I must say, I've had a very non-typical experience overall: no food aversions, no vomiting, no problems major with digestion, and no surgical issues. I have been extremely fortunate indeed, but still taking things one day at a time.

I hope that as you gear up for this journey, you feel a sense of peace and tranquility in knowing that you are making the best decision for YOU. I can't promise you that it will be easy, but I can promise you that it will be worth it.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
