I am home now but wish I was still in the hospital.... Gas pains are the worst. All of sudden, I have a low grade temp of 99. What's funny I don't know when I am full yet. I only intake 1oz of anything at a time so I won't throw up. I am trying to learn this body but it's very sore

I felt like that at first too, I am 5 days out. Yesterday I was allowed to have drinkable yogurt. Got a small one, starts drinking it and was bummed that I could drink so much....then my tiny tummy kicked in and I felt it. I could only drink about 3 oz and I was full until lunch. Had 3 popsicles for lunch and that was 2 too many! Felt sick and had to lay down and wait for feeling to pass. I really thought I was gonna throw up. I didn't eat anything the rest of the night just drank Gatorade. When was ur surgery?

I am getting very nervous about the the sleeve... I really don't know why. I have been going through the process for a year now. Currently, I have lost 7 pounds before surgery on my pro op diet. Surgery is schedule for feb. 18...

I just had my sleeve 2/17. Even after a year of planning, I dont think I really knew what the post op period was going to be like. I walk and walk and still have gas. Crushing my meds is the most horrible thing ever! (AND for future sleevers...the swallow test is the most vile thing I have ever had in my life! ) The largest incision hurts the most. Gets a little better everyday. I cant wait to eat a piece of cheese! Good luck to you!

I had horrible pains in my shoulders for several days. I used a hearing pad and they finally went away. Eating is hard. You have to get your liquids in first and then eat. I made some tuna last night. The smallest can you can buy. I ate three bites and felt sick the rest of the night. Just takes some adjusting. I didn't have to do the swallow test. Sounds terrible.

Hi! I'm 3 days post op and hope the worst is behind me. I woke up yesterday wondering what have I done??!! . I feel better today but am sore and have trouble moving around. any ideas for "full" liquid diet phase? I'm so sick of Jello, Popsicles & broth... I tried pudding and regretted it. One day at a time..right??!!

I agree with you....i think i did so much research about the surgery, about the pre-op diet, etc. and while i did prepare physically for the post-op diet, meaning i stocked my kitchen with pudding, yogurt, shakes, etc, i dont think i prepared enough mentally for it. i had my surgery in Mexico on monday, and im now in San Diego until wednesday...so i have to eat at restaurants. i dont have any Protein shakes, i do have a couple Protein drinks that i bought i can have.... so for today, had some drinkable yogurt for Breakfast, half cup of cream of cauliflower Soup for lunch....but all during lunch when my friend was eating chicken, french fries and a salad, i was DYING to have her food....so much so that i took a fry and sucked on it lol i think its just hard because ive been on a liquid diet for 3 weeks now and i have 2 more weeks on liquids before i can move to pureed food...its killing me! i just want a little bit of avacado...or SOMETHING i feel is of substance! lol

not sure which inscision is the largest, but the one on my right hand side is really hurting me today.

for the swallow test, you mean the barium leak test? if so, that didnt even bother me! i really didnt even taste it! i think my sense of smell or taste changed a little bit or something?

what is your plan frmo your nutritionist? min is full liquids from now until march 5 (days 4-17), then on march 6 i get to add in pureed foods that are applesuace texture.

how are you doign on Water? its 5pm, and ive only gotten in 4 glasses today! trying to get all 8 glasses today! its a challenge!

I'm on the same food schedule. I have trouble getting my Water in but now I'm trying SF Vitamin water and that goes down easier. I'm not sure if I have to wait to have my choc Protein Shakes again- it seems like they might not qualify for full liquid phase... arghh.

I can start pureed foods on Monday. liquid is only 1st week. It's been rough. I have a hard time getting in all my fluids. Everytime I have anything I get a big gas bubble in my chest and I have to wait for it to pass before having anymore. AND as supportive as my husband and children have been, they still have to eat!

Hear you loud and clear when it comes to cravings. I wanted to lick a potato chip yesterday! Lol!

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
