sick for 1st time since sleeved

Recommended Posts

I am about a week & 1/2 away from being 7 mths po. I had my surgery July 18, 2013. I have been sick for 3 days now & absolutely miserable. Had a fever of 102.4 & my whole body hurt, even when i just lay down. Been so dizzy & collapsed & passed out twice on the floor saturday when i tried to go downstairs to take my Vitamins the other day bcuz noone was home that could get them. Woke up soaked in sweat & felt like i couldnt breath.

This is the first time i have been sick since getting my sleeve & i am just grateful that i have not been vomiting with this virus. I can barely get in any Fluid or Protein as just the thought makes me want to gag. Especially the Protein shakes bcuz they are so thick & heavy feeling in the belly. I still try to get something in my system & today I finally was able to drink a Protein shake & am hoping it helps make up for not getting much protein the last 2 days. I have been drinking hot tea with a lil milk & no sugar & sipping at my juice when I was awake to do so but it did not come close to what we should get in, in a day. I have still been trying my best.

My mom helps a lot when she is here but she also has to take care of my dad who is wheelchair bound & goes to dialysis 3 days a week who also was sick as well. I tried so hard to stay away from him & have not really left my room out of fear that if he don't have the same virus I don't need him to catch what I have. When I did need to be aroumd him I wore a hospital mask so I wouldn't spread the germs more. My dads health is very important to me as I already don't have much time left with him & don't want to take any chances of losing him any sooner. I just want to cherish the time I have left with him!

However I think we both caught part of the flu from his driver that brings him home from dialysis as he was still getting over having it. I don't think he should have been driving dialysis patients while sick but I do understand people still have bills to pay & have to work regardless but they should be required to wear masks if they are sick. I think it is the best option for everyone you know.

Anyway I just needed to vent as I am going crazy being a prisoner of my dungeon I call my bedroom. Lol! The plus side of being sick is I lost another 2 lbs since being sick which makes my total loss 87 LBS down in almost 7 mths po! But I do know that those 2 lbs are more then likely just from dehydration & may come back once I am able to start making my fluid & protein intake again. I do feel somewhat better today & my fever was in the normal range this morning but has since began to creep back up some when the sun went down but not to bad.

Hopefully I will feel more myself tomorrow & the dizziness will start to go away as I start getting in more fluids. If anyone else is battling a virus or the flu just know you are not alone & I totally feel your pain. Just hang in there & be strong while you wait it out to pass. Sorry for rambling but I have been stuck in this dungeon for 3 days now & just trying to keep my sanity! Haha!!!

Glad to hear your feeling better. I just got over the exact same thing a few days ago. Stay Strong!

You really need to work on fluids. Shoot for things with electrolytes like G2 or pedialyte. I had diarrhea from a bacterial infection and got so dehydrated I was like you...dizzy, collapsing and very out of breath. I went to the urgent care clinic and my BP was super low and HR super high. They gave me 3 liters IV fluids (after 4 attempts to get a catheter in) and I was instantly better. The fluids brought my BP and HR back to normal and the dizziness and shortness of breath were gone.

Thank you very much to both of you! I am trying to hang in there. Being sick after having the sleve seems to be harder for me due to the Fluid intake requirements but I am doing my very best. I will also try to see about getting some of the g2. I have not seen it around here but will make it my mission to look harder for it. Never even thought about pedialyte either. That is a great idea! If the dizziness doesn't get better in a day or so I will also be making a trip to an urgent care center for fluids. Again thank you for the great advice, it is greatly appreciated!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
