March 2014 Surgery!

Recommended Posts

Good Morning All, I am 5 days post-op. Things are good. Stomach muscles are still sore but walking upright and normally. Water has been my biggest problem. I was a huge water drinking approximately a gallon a day pre surgery and now struggling to get 30 oz a day. I've found I have tried to drink to soon after eating and it causes stomach upset. Nothing that doesn't pass within about 20 minutes but not comfortable. I also realized yesterday that warm light tea goes down very easily with less pouch discomfort. I'm going to focus on warm water intake this weekend and see if that helps. Seems odd as I was a huge ice water drinker. Definitely learning new things about me and wanting to share so we can all be successful!! Good luck everyone.

I am 8 days post op!! I was just wondering what good you are eating?? I am on full liquids till tomorrow then I get to start some cottage cheese, loose mashed potatoes and yogurt!!! I can not wait!!! I am so hungry!! I feel disappointed cause I really wS hoping I wouldn't feel hunger anymore like lots of others!

These are great tips. I'm not a big Water drinker but when I do it has to be freezing. I'll have to drink more tea

I had minestrone Soup puréed. I felt like I was in heaven. Greek yogurt is filling and satisfying. Soft scrambled eggs never tasted better. sugar-free Jello and applesauce have been a go to right now. I wouldn't doubt once you get off liquids you will fill right up. It has actually taken me an hour to get 4 oz in. I'm not hungry at all. I hope you will feel the same once you move past the liquid diet.< /p>

I'm scheduled for the 26th of March and will be alone when I'm recovering. Any suggestions that will make that easier?

. Welcome Sharman! That's a great question, hopefully someone has some excellent suggestions,I will be alone too.
I'm going to be alone recovery as well, but that's my choice. I have told no one except my two kids , But I prefer to not have people hovering over me Lol. Good luck to us aloners!!

I have found it to be quite a challenge taking care of my 2yr old daughter. This is one time I wish I weren't a single parent. I was on the verge of tears this morning because I was in pain from overdoing it a bit. I was afraid to take the pain meds because I knew I would fall asleep. Not to long after, My daughter ended up taking a long nap and so did I so it worked out. But man it's tough. On the plus side, at least I can't be lazy. She keeps me on my toes.

I'm with you on the single parent thing I have 5 year old twins and a 8 year old. I over did it today and I feel like poo. But some good news I've lost 13 pounds since Friday! :)

I'm still trying to figure out this site and feeling pretty ignorant. I can't imagine doing this surgery with a two year old! I wish you the best. I have a three year old grandson that I watch on Fridays and figured I would be unable to do that because I would be feeling too poorly.

Wow twins? I give you credit there! I also have a 12 yr old boy who I was hoping would be a little more helpful. But at the same time, it's not his responsibility. So I just keep pushing through. This is something I really wanted for me and for my kids so I will survive these little hurdles.

13 lbs? Congrats!! That's great! I haven't weighed myself yet. I'm only 4 days out, plus I figure there's a lot of Fluid built up etc.. I'll wait until 1 week.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
