My eyes are bigger than my stomach

Recommended Posts

Lately I have been having difficulties realizing how small my new stomach is after my last fill.

What tips do you have?

The only way you can get by is to buy a food scale and measure your food. Once you can eyeball your portions then you wont need the scale but I recommend it highly

I already do both. It's just hard for me to realize I can only eat that much so I add more to my plate.

I try to approach meals with portion size in mind from the get go. I don't personally weigh food or anything, but I try to have a realistic vision of what a food's true portion size is and stick to it. I try to under fill my plates. One tool that I saw in the hospital's gift shop (and really wish I had gotten while I was there!) was a lap band Portion Control plate. I'm sure there's many versions available, this is just the one I saw at the time. http://www.lapbandtools.com/products/Portion-Control-Plate.html

I know it sounds silly, but use smaller plates. That way, it looks like more food when it isn't. I don't use dinner plates anymore...I use paper plates alot. They are smaller and work great. If you have salad plates, try that...or even kiddie plates.

Give it time, you will adjust your mind eye too!

Now, I look at the quantity of a "normal restaurant serving" and feel astonished that I ever ate that much in the first place! One of the tricks I use is to use a tablespoon to serve myself, instead of the traditional serving spoon. Also I spend a lot of time cutting up my food. It slows me down before I ever start to eat, and when I leave food behind, it's so much smaller- I don't feel like I am wasting as much. Think about this, it's not how much food you can eat and get away with on the scale, but how little can you eat and be satisfied? You can always go back for another small portion. Good luck, it will happen for you too!

I have small 3 (or4) inch plates. I think I'm going to make sure that I always have one clean to eat off of. I usually do eat on it, but last night they were dirty and I used a regularish plate instead. Filled it up with a chicken breast and zucchini spaghetti.

I need to learn to now take my 3oz of Protein and walk away. If I want more I can come back and get more later.

I do this too. I never use a dinner plate anymore. It's ALWAYS a salad plate. I found I too would overfill my regular sized plate.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
