My gastric sleeve journey so far...

Recommended Posts

Hi! I am Stacey age 29, female. My highest weight was 308 on 1/3/14. This was the day I met my surgeon Dr. Duperior. I was cash pay since I knew my insurance wouldn't cover. I immediately the day after got the flu, which terrified me because I was scared that I wouldn't make my surgery date if they scheduled appts for me during this week. Well, it helped kick start the weight loss and I started my 2 week pre op diet the next week. It was so hard! I just wanted a burger! Lol I did all of my pre op required testing and appointments. Surgery got scheduled for 1/27. I lost 17 lbs pre-op, and now that i am 8 days out, I have lost 11 more since surgery for a total of 28 lbs in a month.

I am feeling pretty good. At the hospital I did amazing. Walked a lot. Got plenty of Fluid. As soon as I got home, the thought of broth made me sick. I was surviving on Water, popsicles and ice. Friday I was nauseated all day, threw up that night. Back to normal over the weekend. Yesterday I started my full liquids. Haven't had a Protein Shake yet but I've eaten a little yogurt, a little cottage cheese, a little pudding, a little apple sauce. When I say a little, I mean a couple baby spoon fulls of each. I am terrified of eating too much. I still get gassy after I eat anything. Some stomach pains throughout the day but nothing terrible.

I cannot stand the chewable vitamins. They make me gag and puke. If anyone has any capsule form recommendations I would love it!

So I am just over a week out, things are going pretty well, looking forward to my new life! It is so hard right now, I cannot wait to be able to eat food again, but I am kinda on auto-mode right now. Two weeks left of liquids. Then I can finally eat soft foods. Lol

Good for you Stacy. I am working through all of my medical requirements and it is good to hear from someone on the other side of surgery. Sounds like you did great. I am curious as to why your insurance would not cover? What kind of insurance do you have? I am worried about insurance refusal as I am not in a position now to pay cash. I have been counting on approval as before I started with the program my BMI was 42. Now lower 39.3. so I am a little concerned. Sounds like you didn't have post op complications? Deb

I knew my insurance wouldn't cover because I had looked into it a long time ago. I researched this surgery over the last couple of years before we decided to just do it. I have Humana.

I ended up taking out a personal loan to pay for surgery and to pay back will be about 230/mo. So it's basically like buying a small car, but instead I am buying a small body lol.

I haven't had any complications. I went into the surgery healthy and came out healthy. I was very lucky.

I wish you all the best on your journey. I just started mine but if you have any questions that I can answer for you I will be glad to do so!

Ha ha,,, I love that! "like buying a small car, but instead I am buying a small body". That made me smile. I'm still waiting to see if I'm approved (seems like it's taking longer to wait a couple of weeks for approval than the whole precert thing took). I also like to hear good stories about surgery time. The nausea is not something I look forward too though. Did they give you anything for it or was it a quickly passing thing?

They did give me a prescription for nausea but with only being able to take such small sips of Water, i gagged on the pill and it was so bitter and disgusting. It didn't work either. I ended up getting more and more nauseated and threw up a few hours later. But then I felt better. It was strange and came out of nowhere 4 days after surgery. I haven't felt sick since. I am feeling really good and better each day.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
