I am wanting to "recreational" eat all of a sudden.

I am starting to go back to my old ways of eating. Does this hit everyone at sometime? I'm worried and don't want to go back to my old ways. How have people overcome this?

That has happened to me. I think that it starts small...maybe a little bit of something here...why not a little bit of that there, hey while I'm at it, I'll have this the next day. It's very hard mentally. I just reflected on the reasons why I had the surgery in the first place: to get healthier, to be happier, to be able to do the things I want to do that I currently can't because of my weight. I say to myself, after everything that I've been through to get this surgery, am I really going to sabotage myself and not reach my goals because of what I want to eat right now? It has helped me stay on track.

Hi, I have not gotten to my old ways of eating and I hope not too!! I do have cravings, but so far have been able to walk away and not partake. I avoid vending machines by not having cash on me, I also pack healthy foods if I know I will be out running around so I can stop and eat so I dont have the temptation to stop somewhere. Hope these tips help!!

I'm struggling right now too - going back to 'old' ways... eating until I'm super full, and burping all the time too - whereas I should be thinking more about what i'm eating and stopping before I get to 'that point' - I think that 'thinking' is going to be the key - need to concentrate on other things too - get more involved in hobbies, taking care of me, exercise when I can.. really need to do this as, as you say - why did we go through the surgery if we are only going to be going back to our old ways? :(

After I left my doctors office today, and got a good report, I picked up something I'd wanted, ate some, and the rest is in the fridge. I had curried goat, rice and Beans, and a bite of plantain. But I'm over it now. I'm drinking H2O. I want to keep moving down the scale and get in Onederland in three months.

I guess we'll have temptations and may yield on occasion. But try to remember the goal.

Catered...you are SO CLOSE to being in the 100s! Three-four pounds away! Focus on that short term goal. You are so close. Don't let (whatever) rob you of that. It's right in front of you; just a few more steps. C'mon, you can do it!!

What do you mean by old ways? You will move to more normal eating as time progresses....please try to be specific it really helps you and other ppl understand if/what you're triggered by.

For example, my old ways might mean binge eating at night after everyone has gone to bed and I'm "relaxing". So many variables in that. I may still have the behavior of eating at night. I might still be emotionally eating for relaxation. I might need to do a better job spreading my calories/meals in the day. I might be letting myself get too hungry......see what I mean?

All your are saying sounds very familiar to me. A little here a little there. And you're right, why sabotage this unbelievable opportunity I have to be able to lose weight. We had surgery the same month-let's stay in touch.

I don't think I know how to do that. I am very computer illiterate.

I am eating too much also and finally recognizing that full feeling. But yes, thinking, and possibly planning my day better will be a help. Thanks

Thanks for the motivation. I am able to run up the stairs, tie my shoes, have lower blood pressure, and a myriad of other great things. I need to remember all that.

I have gone back to eating junk food and drinking some carbonated drinks-not only has the weight loss slowed but I gained back 5 lbs. I have 30 lbs still to lose. I have noticed that I get full quick on Protein but that feeling does not last long and I have to stop myself from going back for more food.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
