I'm one week out and craving tomatoes so bad. Tomato Soup, pizza, spaghetti sauce etc that kind of stuff. I'm thinking a couple sips of Tomato Soup would be ok!?!?!

Thank you all for responding. Actually my surgeon says he doesn't care and I can do pureed foods at this point, but I can't tolerate anything. I just took one small bite of vanilla pudding and I am already paying for it. I feel like I am starving, I can't find anything I can tolerate other than Water.< /p>

People are generally allowed pureed food in their second week post-op. It may take some more time in some cases like yours. As you said that you could not tolerate the vanilla pudding, it clearly indicates that you should not try pureed food yet. Give it some more time. I guess 2-3 days should do or 5 days at most. I am sure you should be fine by then. Congrats, and all the best.

Tomato Soup was my good friend for a couple of weeks. I found it much easier to tolerate warm fluids instead of cold. Good luck to you! It will get better.

Mmmm..Yep, Tomato Soup was super yummy after surgery. ( when allowed full liquids) I was sick to death of "cream of" anything, but Tomato Soup never got old. Of course it did take an entire week to finish a family size can of the stuff, but it was so worth it! In fact, it sounds good right now! LOL

I can tolerate Tomato Soup, but diced tomatoes went through me like a sieve.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
