Mine was easy breezy. They just want to make sure you're not doing this for the wrong reasons. Just be honest, it's a conversation. It didn't hurt that my counselor had the surgery herself.

I was nervous to go to my as well but when I got there and started talking to her I was good. She just ask me all kinds of questions like "how my childhood was like" "how long I've been overweight" "what diets have I tried" "if I'm a night eater" "what do I do when Im upset, mad etc..... You will be fine just be honest with your answers and everything will be good!

Mine was easy, too. Had to answer a 300 question"test", then visited with the psychologist.

Yes, I had to do the "test" first and then spoke with her... as long as you are honest (as stated above) you shouldn't have any problem... we have all tried a MILLION "diets" and fads, etc., they just need to get a feel for where your head is at, if you are committed to making this work, and that you are doing it for you... a healthier YOU! Good luck, should be no problem!

Hey there...I was nervous persay just didn't know what to expect. Mines went extremely well. He's worked with tons of bariatric patients even come in to do talks at group sessions so he was really able to connect some dots for me. So glad I went! Didn't like how I felt when he asked very direct questions about my childhood as that was a shocker I just thought the talk would be about WLS, my prep and relationships with food but it was far more. All in all mines was GREAT!

Mine told me upfront the only things that would make her say no were if I was suicidal, homocidal, or if I were psychotic and not on medication.

She said that if someone says they are very depressed or an active drug user they have to deal with those issues first before they have surgery.

I really liked mine, she gave me some good things to think about in terms of how to eat with the family and what to tell the kids.

Also they look for any areas for you that could present obstacles or pitfalls in the future after the surgery.

This is not to keep you from having it, but to help you to be as successful as you can by preparing and planning for those things that might arise. I.e. snacking after work, or stress triggers, etc, just what ever it might be for you in particular.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
