Lost interest in food and it tastes different too!

Recommended Posts

Ever since having surgery, it seems as though I have lost interest in food! Very rarely do I crave anything. I eat good food, but about 3/4 of the way through eating I just flat out lose interest! Also, I find that some foods taste different to me than before surgery.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Yes.. My obsession for food is mostly gone. I too start to eat and along the way with eating my 4 oz foods,.. I stop cause I am not hungry and start hiccuping . I can go many hours without feeling hungry or thinking that I need to eat. I do eat my 3 meals and two Snacks to get my 800 calorie and 65 grams of Protein. But enjoying it..that surely has lessened . And glad that I am that way now.

It's been 3.5 months since I've been sleeved.. Still eating the way I'm supposed to, getting all my Protein in. I used to enjoy food so much and now I'm no longer obsessed with it. It's actually a good thing. I used to be a major carb addict. Now I barely eat bread or carbs!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
