Hi just wanted to check and see how you are doing post surgery? I have 8 days before i go in and im super excited .... how are they treating you? how is your pain level? Did you bring everything you needed? Anything you can think of that you wanted or needed that you did not bring with you? Sorry for all the questions just overly anxious :-)

The nurses are wonderful. Don't hesitate to ask for anything, that's what they encourage. I brought my cell phone and iPad and that was all I needed, really. The first day after surgery I was mainly sleeping off the anesthesia and then getting up to walk. I had a morphine pump, which I could push every 6 minutes. Definitely kept the pain at bay. My advice: push it every 6 minutes so that the pain doesn't have a chance to creep back up.

I personally didn't push it very often, strictly because I was one of the weird ones that when I pushed it, I could TASTE it. Same thing happened when the anesthesiologist but the anesthesia in my IV, I could taste it before I went under. Blech! Nurses said it's not too common but it happens. But I digress.

Kb88 I had my sleeve by Dr Tanaka at Scripts Mercy Hospital in San Diego. Where did you have yours???

My surgeon was Dr. Chin, and it was done at St. Bernadine hospital in San Bernardino. I am extremely happy with my Kaiser experience :)

Day after surgery. Rough night last night with pain and nausea. Better today. Much harder than gallbladder but it's doable. I just have such a hard time with narcotics. They make me so sick. Hopefully going home tonight.

I'm on the 25th. Had my EKG and blood draw today. Found out my surgery is at 12:30 which means I will go 12 hours with no food or Water. I don't get that.

I know I'm going to be a crabby bitch because when I had my endoscopy I was so thirsty.

We had a preop class where she told us we basically have to get up and walk around once an hour except if we are asleep.

I'm emotionally exhausted. I start liquid diet Tuesday.

I tried Bari Advantsge and Injury and liked them

both. I might just get some of each kind to keep from getting burned out on it.

KB88 what kind of diet are you on? I am on another week of clear liquids, but now increases my Protein intake to 70gm. One more week and I get to add soft foods to my diet! :)

I am on full liquids until next Wednesday. I can't wait to start puréed foods!

Yep the nerves suck! Instead of thinking about things that could go wrong, think about everything positive that will come out of doing this. Helped my nerves a lot pre-op. You will be fine!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
